I was really thinking of the Hobbit, and when I had first read it, I had no Idea of
that Tolkien intentions ie: "created orcs in mockery of the Elves by Sauron". I create from my imagination not necessarily from the conciousness of facts ...

I love this picture. The only thing I noticed that's odd is the lack of pointy ears. Orcs were created in mockery of the Elves by Sauron, and would have most likely had pointed ears. Otherwise, it's perfect.

I can not remeber MC the type of watercolour paper, but it was heavy. I had already made a model in a type of clay, and I lit it, and then drew it onto the paper with a brown conte crayon(it`s like hard chalk). Once scanned in I airbrush lighty with green and then with black. I quiclky fill the background and used the smuge tool on it. then I started to use the smuge tool on his neck, but found that I totally ruined the water colour texture, and tryed to replace it digitally, but it didn`t work very well.

I love the way you use the texture of the water colour paper (arches 600gr?). the lighting is perfect, but I - and other people it seems from the comments) would like to know more, what did you do during the digital phase ? Im a wacom fanatic myself, so Im very interesed.
Bravo ! Ill keep an eye on your gallery (insane scientist type whisper: no... BOTH eyes!)

wow ..the vision and the lightning..Smile the 3D effect is also impressive .. that makes me wonder about which media and material you used on it ..

frodo's picture

hey cheeky! ...no it looks a bit like my Dad ha!.....modeling in clay, is also used by some of professionals, it doesn`t take as long as you think, about 3 hours..and its plain sailing once it has been lit well...

aint it useful to just look in the mirror and draw a orc..p... kidding terry. ur the master at lord of the rings ors, they have so much three dimnensioons to them, i konw u use models, that aspect is really amazing, u take the time to make a model and light it and that gives a very realistic look to it. wow.that seems like way to much work for a lazy git like me.

frodo's picture

yea! he`s a real bad dude..

abroenink's picture

There he is, the orc that scares my fairies, he is looking threatening. The light is very special, just the way it should be and difficult to draw. You did it very skilled.
