Thanks Dan!...yes it turn out ok, apart from the dead in the marshes, I`d like to redo the picture of them sometime, to make them more eerie...

Cheers Alberto...it seems like the pictures that I just draw, without too much planning are the ones that are preferred...

Neither did I, the inspiration came when I was playing around with Bryce. The camera accidentally when below the waterline and rendered a picture from that perspective, it was then that the idea came to me of using Gollum...

I really like the effect here. Very disturbing, yet amusing at the same time. You did a great job on the eyes. I think this is my favorite.

Brilliant concept and painting.I would never have thought to have picture Gollum in this fashion!I like everything about this pic with the water ripples, dead soldiers and all.But I think the main thing here that catches the attention are his eyes and the arm reaching for a fish.Keep up the good work!

Happy new year Jamie!...I glad you get something out of these paintings, I never quite capture the image I`m aspiring to in my minds eye, but hopefully I edge a little closer each time I paint..

I can't avoid commenting any longer. Excellently done; you capture my interest with each and every one of your paintings... (though this is certainly my favorite!)

yes Chris... I copped the picture quite abit, so you can see Gollum up close, and your right I touched up the eyes to make them glow more...the thing with character development, is that it`s an on going thing...

first ofall, i like this much beter than mine, and secondly , did u add a glow to the face, cause it seems alot bigger here than it does in elfwood, this has got to be, with ur smaug, my faovuite pic of urs.o not forgetting the two kinds statues.

Hi Anna... yes if you read above, I`ve explained how I did it...the fish is generally how I painted it, it`s meant to be trying to turn away...but your right is not as good as the fish to the right..

frodo's picture

yes it was orignaly painted as a watercolour, but it was far to light, so rather than useing a masking fluid and give the whole painting a dark wash.I scanned it in , and made a copy of it and toned that down, and then layered it on top of the orignal, and then rubbed through the darker to the lighter picture...

Thanks michael.... I was trying to establish my version of Gollum, before the film comes out..

Cheers naomi!..yes I worked over the water colour with photoshop...

great work! hey, at the first look i saw that you deal with the lord of the rings...

gollum is just perfect! and the location, the dead marshes!! wow, great ideo with all the dead guys on the bottom... wow. i admire your works -_-

U r so good man ! I do see some digital effects there, but wow ! The way you handled lighting and tones is brilliant ! One minor thing bothers me though : that fish on the left...looks broken and bent to a U shape...0.0

If this is painted with watercolours, I really have no kind of idea how to paint with em Cool This is like wow!
The only thing I could whine about is the ripple the hand makes on the surface, and those bubbles around it. They are kinda popping out too clearly. Maybe adding some bubbles infront of the hand too?

Very engaging picture... i love the composition and technique. This is definitely my favorite of your gallery. Great work!

Art at its best.
