Artwork Description

Watercolor on 9 x 16 Illustration Board. Trying to broaden my use of a background. Her colors are much brighter than I was aiming for. I will have to work on that in future images.

I love the picture so much! I'm curious... did the inspiration from this picture come from 'The Mists of Avalon'? That is such a good book, and I've read it a hundred times over. Your work is so beautiful! Please do another piece on the ladies of Avalon? I can't wait to see more.

If you have not already done so, reading Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon series may be helpful toward your research. The books are: MISTS OF AVALON, THE FOREST HOUSE, THE LADY OF AVALON & PRIESTESS OF AVALON.

Great strong colors and a wonderful pose- but its the tree and the carved birds that I really love! The tree almost reminds me of the old blown ink trick- I love it. It has so much character. All around great piece Abranda!

I did not know that. Excellent information. I've been trying to research Avalon legend. I'm thinking about doing an entire series of images dedicated to it. So if you have any reference, let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much for your comments.

Did you know? Abranda, that Joseph of Armithea planted a twig(supposed to be part of the true cross) at Glastonbury(believed to be the real site of Avelon) that grew into a tree just like this one! lovely detailed work, and your colours are beautiful!

Thank you for looking and following up. She took the longest of any piece I've ever done.

Nice work Abranda. I fear watercolor. Thanks for posting this over in the Workbench thread. I especially like the pose and the staff. The small designs around the hem of her dress are a wonderful touch. Great work.

I like this a lot! I don't think the colors are bad at all, they add a vibrancy to the picture that it might otherwise lack. I love how the hair is draped so that it is almost a part of her dress and the snake on her arm is a nice touch. Wonderful tree, too. Good job! Autumnleef2002

Art at its best.
