Artwork Description

This one took forever to paint, because of the number of characters and complex lighting. The inspiration for this piece was that I've always wanted to paint a classic group portrait of fantasy characters--sort of going back to childhood roots of fantasy novels and D&D, if you will. The tutorial for this piece will be published in the D'Artiste book that I'm co-writing with three other digital artists. You can find out more about the book here: http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/call_for_entries/dartiste/

Close-up shots of the painting could be seen here: http://www.ethereality.info/ethereality_website/paintings_drawings/new/ordinary_heros/ordinary_heros.htm#

i have to agree with both the aboves, the characters are nicely done, but the architecture has to be the best part of this. my eyes were drawn right to the stone work, rather than the character at first.

I love the background scenery on this and the dappled light. As much as I'm an RPG geek, I find I'm far less interested in the characters than in the architecture here, which I adore.

Art at its best.
