your work on this image is amazing, simply breathtaking. I have been looking for images of phoenix's on the net for the better part of 2 months, and until now I have not come across anything that brought out the true look and feeling I was going for. All I want to say is thank you my search for the perfect image of a phoenix is finally over, Again thank you and keep up the awsome work.

Thanks a lot for taking such an in-depth look, Sam! I like this one a lot, too.... Smile I haven't had much of a chance to work with oils lately, though. I hope I can get back to it someday soon.

Your gallery is so full of great images...
I spent over an hour looking and trying to decide which one is The Best, but I can´t decide. This one I simply like most Smile

Thanks, Guest! I haven't done any oil paintings like this for quite a while... I should do some again if I ever get the time.

O.O wow...it's amazing

Thanks!! When I was doing this piece, I did some research on the Phoenix, and found that while they were represented as many of the birds we see in famous depictions, the Greeks usually based them on Eagles. So I thought that would be a good bird for me to use - as you say, they are feirce and bold!

goldseven's picture

This is wonderful! I've always thought of phoenixes looking a lot like eagles, and am so often disappointed when they resemble cranes! He looks fierce, bold, and magnificent!

Therese - I'm flattered an artist of your talent would consider that... and yes - I do take commissions so you (or any wonderful persone reading this!) may feel free to contact me anytime.

Man, I'm in love.... Do you by any chances do commissions? I'd love you to make an illustration for my novella.

I always say that a picture must work in black and white before coloring. The light and dark is the foundation we build on. In fact, in this painting (and many others I do) I start with a grayscale underpainting and glaze colors on top. Maybe that's why you respond favorably to it! Thanks for writing!

Coloured pictures is not my style ,
but I think this is really great
image.

Thank you, Jan! Very nice of you to comment.

Great use of color Patrick! Well done!

megaflow's picture

Many thanks! - It was my second time painting a phoenix (the other was my "Phoenix Orb cover") and on this one, I think I got it right... I should probably refrain from trying again, as I don't think I'll do any better!

Guest's picture

Ahhhh, one of my favorite mythical creatures: the Phoenix, and you drew it perfectly... nicely done!

megaflow's picture

Thank you, Guest! I'm glad you liked it, and took the time to write.

You are very talented. What a beautiful picture!

megaflow's picture

Thanks! (!!!) -- I never actually had orally examined any birds until I did this piece. I looked at some closeup pictures and noticed all the cool stuff in there, so I knew I wanted to include it in the painting.

neofotistos's picture

some more exclamation marks for you: !!! do you often look into birds' mouths?

megaflow's picture

Smile Thanks Mark - it's always great to hear from you! I'll keep trying to improve as long as I can!

baylessiii's picture

Very, very impressive, Patrick! Your commitment to quality is screaming with success!

megaflow's picture

Many thanks, Adrian. I was very surprised, myself, at how easily this part of the painting became a complete piece with a little cropping. "Serendipity", I think the word is...!

Guest's picture

Even though 'only' a detail shot this could work perfectly as a standalone illustration, rightly awesome Patrick, rightly awesome!

megaflow's picture

Wow, Chris, I should get you to write my promotional materials! (Which usually come off like "Patrick's some guy who, like, paints and stuff"). But seriously, thanks a lot! I feel this Phoenix could be the best thing I've painted - I'm glad it made your heart beat a little faster.

Art at its best.
