Artwork Description

For a long while now I have been admiring the art of Daniel Wikart who creates some of the most amazing stuff in colored pencils. Recently there have been many new artists that also master this medium. So I got really curious and last week I bought myself a beginner’s package and this is my first try at them so be gentle.

I'm glad you liked it cause personally I feel it is kind of a weak attempt. But I really enjoyed going through the stuff you produce using this medium. Very good and the choice of motif is extremely interesting.

Trying out new mediums is always so exciting... you are at first scared... but then you get over it and just jump in with no expectations whatsoever... and before you know it youre sort of getting the hang of it.. and loving it=) I hope you continue playing with coloured pencil... I know I love my (numerous) coloured pencil set(Drunk. This is such a successful outcome... especially for your first go! Congratulations=)

Great stuff Chris, your pencil work is lovely(as ever), it amazes me that this is your first time with colour pencil, the style looks so accomplished, brilliant!

Thank you Row.

I have thought about oil and acrylics but I have never tried it. I found an art gallery with Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema and I can only agree with you - he did some amazing stuff. Once again, thank you for your most encouraging words.

I am amazed at how good you are with skin tones. Just with shadows and highlights. You do it great. Have you ever considered painting with acrylics or oil paints? I have a feeling maybe you could truely pull it off. But I guess it takes time to get used to a new medium so don't feel rushed. One of my favorite artists is Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. I'm not sure if you have ever heard of him but if you have not you must check out his art. He is dead, sadly, but his art is so romantic and amazing. Hope your summer went well.

I haven't got a grasp about colour yet but I will keep practising. Just posted this one out of excitement really! Thanks for the good advice Tatiana.

Love the expression on tiger's face, very "tigery':)
Overall, nice work (if you could only mute that grass a little to accentuate tiger's eyes more:)
