Artwork Description

Although still wise and beautiful, the dragons of Japan are of a more notorious nature than their Chinese cousins, who were merely vain. Some were known to kill solely for the pleasure of it, such as the fabled sea serpent who lived off the coast of the Oki islands. He demanded to be delivered to him a young maiden once a year, or else the islands would be ravaged by the sea at his command (how very western! For shame). One year a girl named Tokoyo volunteered herself for the sacrifice. Only this girl didn’t wait for a knight (or samurai) in shining armor to save her...

I really like the flow in this image. The eye is moved constantly...The colors are also well-chosen.
