A Drow Elf and a Snowy Owl, alone in a birch forest at night...
I love the work. Atmosphere setting and especially the expression on the Drow's face .Smug and all knowing as any Drow should be .
Nice work I like it
I love your drawing.
Great art, first thing I thought of was Drizzt from Dark Elf Trilogys
Magga camara. thats good O.O
Hi Linda!--My rules for using my images used to be that it was OK as long as the site gave me a credit and a link. But now I don't give anyone permission because I can't keep track of who has asked and who hasn't--and some people will take art off the secondary sites and it all just gets out of control.
That's how people stealing (intentionally or unintentionally) mess things up for everyone, sadly.
Well, my drow painting has been around for too long--so he's spread all over the place by now. I was also bad about watermarking things when I first started uploading to the internet! So I'm not going to worry about it too much. But if something blatant occurs--such as someone selling prints or claiming the image as their own, I'll try and fight.
I am SO flattered that anything of mine could inspire you--or anyone, really! I'm trying hard to be so inspired by your work that my painting will get better... So far, it's not working so well, but at least I can look at your work and just enjoy them!
I would LOVE it if you published a book of your artwork. Please consider doing something like that!!!
This is one of those images I've seen pretty much all over the web. It's unfortunate that so many people would take it and never give credit... but now that I know who made it, I can bash them over the head until they either remove it or credit you. What are your rules? As for the image - it's excellent. I really enjoy the limited colour use and the birches in the background were definately a stroke of genius. I'd also like to add that this picture has inspired me :] Even before I knew who had made it.
I'm glad this image is holding up. It's one of my older images, actually. I painted it when there were very few depictions of Drow around. Salvatore's first Drizzt trilogy had just come out and my friends and I were not happy with the pictures of Drow we'd seen--so we painted our own! That's what's cool about being an artist. I've got to say I owe a lot to fantasy artist Heather Bruton http://www.heatherbruton.com. She was doing a lot of the earliest drow paintings I'd seen.
This is my favourite deptction of a drow! (Including cover art). I can't help myself; I love snow, and I love drow!
This is the best pic i´ve ever seen of a drow..(and I must say that i´ve seen quite alot) it´s a damn fine pic!!! plz more drow pics, because you are the best!
Drow images tend to get "borrowed" a lot and spread all over the internet, unfortunately. Quite a few people have stumbled upon this one somewhere... It hasn't been officially published anywhere. I did sell prints of it, but I lost track of what number the edition was on--I think it may be sold out as a limited edition, unfortunately...!
This is a well-done piece of artwork and it represents a drow ranger very nicely in a colder climate. The owl is a perfect added touch and I love the background design with the birch trees. I have saved the image for personal use, as you said could be done below, however, I do have a question: If I added your name, website adress and anything else you wanted to the bottom of the image, would I be able to use it as a character for role playing? Of course, credit would be given as I know how it feels to have work of yours stolen. *Shakes fist at a few works of programming art that has been stolen.* But anyways, great picture and I love it! Don't be shy to say no, it is yours, after all. Please reply here: firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks -Austin
I adore this piece - it's incredibly well done, and I love how the hunting instincts seem to come out in his entire posture. He looks like a cold, ruthless hunter, devious...just absolutely wonderful. Good job!
You have the skin tone down perfectly. I remember seeing this before, but again, not where. Do you ever sell or do commissions of work? If so, I would love to either purchase a copy of one of your drow (I believe you have another somewhere) or comission on. Thanks for the gorgeous work!
This is one of my favourite images on epilogue - truly remarkable! The guy has so much character, the lighting is superb as well as the garb and colours - amazing work!
Thanks! I really like drow. It's just weird (and sad) that I haven't been able to get around to painting more...!
This has to be the best picture of a drow elf i have ever seen............it's so great. This is pratically how i have been imagining my favorit book character. You bruoght this drow elf to life with such realism it's just incredible, i love it.
Thanks, Lela. Some pictures just come together better than others. For some reason, the moonlight mood, the woods, the snow and the snowy owl and drow just seem to add up to more than the separate elements alone. I'm glad you like it.
It´s absolutelly wonderful April, just the way that I imagine a drow!
Mystic, beautiful, and yet, something in them that makes you wary.
His clothes fits him so perfectly.
I can see that you´ve put in some effort to make them a part of him, and not to draw away attention, only to enhance the effect.
Wonderful work on the background as well. You´ve made the birches look so realistic.
This one is number one for me of your pictures. You make special pictures April!
This piece is absolutely beautiful, and compelling. (And the subject has smoulders quite nicely! Yow!) I adore it, and I'll be applying to Santa for a print of it this Christmas.
Kay, Sweetie! Nice of you to visit! I really should leave comments for you and other artists, but I haven't done much of that so far on Epilogue.
I painted this 7 or 8 years ago... I wish I would have had time to do more like it, but I've been working full time and free-lancing on the side which has kept me too busy.
I usually don't work in such a monochromatic palette, although I really enjoy seeing other paintings done that way. It just seemed a very easy way to do the skin tones and to make it look like a night scene. Payne's Grey and Ultramarine Blue are two colors I use a lot. But most of my paintings have a lot more color variation in them.
Thank you so much for your comments!
Oh April..I am so sorry I didn't comment on this the first time I saw it....I absolutely love it....and you know I love drows. Your use of the blue colors in this so expertly actually stopped me in one of my paintings of drows. I was doing a similiar color pallet and I hadn't seen yours yet. So I did a quick turn around to another pallet...This is so wonderful! The use of white which is difficult you have mastered. This is cover quality...
Thanks. I used to give permission for the kind of use you are thinking of, but having the art on a lot of other sites just means it's easier for people to steal (although that's happening anyway!).
This is very beautiful and dream-like. I know someone's asked this before... but, I was wondering if this could be for a character? I'd give you full credit and a link if I ever get my home-page up, I promise. Anyway, this is very good. I love it.
oh, this is my favorite! all these tones, the expression and the mood!i can even hear the sounds of the night forest creatures!! great detail as usual!
Thanks for your comments.
I hear from quite a few people who have seen this image but didn't know who did it. It's things like that which have made me pretty unhappy with the amount of stealing that goes on on the internet. Some people have my permission to use this image, but only for personal pages and only with copyright notices and links... *sigh*
This has got to be my favourite picture of a drow elf, ever.
i saw this image once somewhere on the net and i couldnt get it out of my head so im glad i can tell you how grrrreat it is!
This does have a bit more of a dreamlike feel than most of my other art. Maybe it's the limited palette, almost monochrome? I love looking at monochrome painting, although I rarely actually work that way for some reason!
... This is the kinda image I'd imagine but never be able to get down on paper... it's awesome...
