Artwork Description

Done in Painter 7. I was literally finishing it the first time when Painter crashed and corrupted the file so I had to start over. The second time turned out better though. This piece is the first where I have taken the time to get reference for everything. Gandalf's robes came from an actual costume I own. I also used photo reference of fire, bats, tigers, rams etc for this piece. The painting was done designed to be printed at 30"x19" approximately. There are too many detail shots to post them all on epilogue, but you can see them all at my web page. This is a revised version with some errors in the face fixed, and whiskers added.

I love the idea of the balrog being part tiger. Such an interesting interpretation! And the fire looks great.

Thank you for your comment!
This is a very nice interpretation of the balrog; it has a gargoylistic feeling over it with its cat-like head. Nice work!

thanks. I have always loved tigers, and really felt that their stripes really lend themselves well to a fiery creatures look, especially when the black/orange is inverted. Thanks for commenting.
