Artwork Description

the final MORUUL sculpture, my biggest ever comission.
The lady comissioning him requested for a dragongdog, symbolizing protection, harmony and family good luck. No other dog fits this better than a labrador. I grew up with labradors and there's no other dog that has grown so much to my heart. So, for me it instantly was clear that he had to be similar to Fuchur, and yet different to Michael Ende's screen rendering of Fuchur (the original Fuchur bway was a Chinese dragon in "Unendliche Geschichte"), he has bigger, blue eyes, a stubbyer snout, a real dog nose, chinese dragon whsikers, a tail tuft, various sized scales, a spine and tummy mane and birdfeet.

MORUUL was made out of polymer clay, he is very, very big.
13 inches long, 12 inches wide and 6 inches high. There are other pictures with a hand reference.
he is a sturdy wire armature, lots of intertial stuffing and two pounds polymer clay.
He took a full 12 hours to sculpt, however, I did take my time and enjoyed making every scale and enhanching it with color. His big scales are nightglow.
His hair was not made with the garlic press thing or another polymer tool, its single hair handrolled pure handwork. And in case you wonder, yes, it was fun doing them.
He was painted pearl like Fuchur because in my opinion any other colorm would look idiotic on him.

I love his furry scaliness! I loved Falcor (Fuchur) in The Neverending Story, but I think I like your version even better.

The amount of detail in this is very impressive. I can't even imagine doing something this detailed in such a short time. You are very talented Barbara.

I want one of those as a pet!

Art at its best.
