Artwork Description

Conclusion for a long and difficult journey through the stormy mountains.

About the character. You will have noticed that the sole character in the journey up until this stage is facing away from the viewer!.You will (hopefully) have noticed that the character is completely shrouded in cloak. That is a protection from harm.Self impossed i might add!.

in this piece he has passed a mark in his journey were he feels he can decloak himself. There is a gateway closing behind him simultaneous to him decloaking!.The gate will fully close once he is fully revealed. There is a slight obstical in his way,in the form of the pool reflecting the mountains. It represents negativity, which is creeping towards the journeyman,However it is not strong enough to get close to the man,and evapourates without doing much harm at all.

Moral??yaa!if you work at beating difficult parts of your life,The rewards and lessons learnt are priceless.

Hey don't cringe on that comment, it actually made me feel good, i remember, i thought it was a great compliment. Less skill?. well i predominantly do landscapes now, and there is a distinct reason why i shy away from "Anatomy". I'm sure i can do it, but i just can't get into doing em Wink, And you most certainly don't need to have skill to pick out flaws to a piece, thats for sure ^^.
Yea I do only wish i get an editors pick one day. Many people from that time of painting said i was getting close to having one, Yet a year a half down the track, and i'm still no closer Sad. Guess i haven't impressed the pants of the editors yet. No chris, Don't feel any shame on your previous comments, I do remember it without reading it, so obviously i took it on board ^^.

Boy, I just re-read a comment I left for you a while back, and man did I sound cocky. Here I am, an artist with less skill than you trying to give you advice. Once more, I even sound like I am an editor or something, telling you that id you do this or that, you will get an editor's pick. Geesh, please forgive me, I am much more humble now. The thing about characters in motion I realize is just my own personal taste and belongs in another style, not yours. This is great work. Cheers.

It's the interpretation...your description acts as an interpretation, so when I look back to the image itself, I see it in a new way than my first look at it. And it gives me all kinds of ideas then...someday perhaps I can make them visible.

thrax-1's picture

wooo, man sheesh, my ego HAH! stay down, stay down. ahahaha. so is it more on narrration? or how to interpret. I'm really interested. this is great, thanks again varian

Your description makes me think of the 8 of Cups, and the image is simply exquisite and majestic. You wouldn't believe how much I'm learning about my own art by viewing yours, so *thank you*!

I know that movie, hehee yea that movie was pretty good for its age.Yup very reflective of how i was feeling last year.Or practically for the past five years.if you've lived it!,Then you can paint it,because you know how it feels. Thanks very much for your lovely compliment christiaan Laughing out loud.

caitmf1's picture

the painting absolutely screams atmosphere; i love especially the way you created the glass or forcefield tunnel; its just beautiful; your work is very atmospheric all over and the solitude of one person adds to it; reminds me of logons run ; not in design but in feel and concept

thrax-1's picture

Yes the story all flowed out about twenty minutes after i'd posted on this site.It took me 4-5 hours of pondering just to come up with the title, which was blimmin shocking ;p.Thanks very much.....yet again

eri-chan's picture

great piece, but the story to go along with it is even better. Thats a very good moral Smile I love the reflection in the pool of water at his feet, and the air-distortions caused by the gate behind the figure. The texture of the mountains is great too, very realistic. I just love your work!

thrax-1's picture

Yea its the old addage of not what you have but how you use it.I linked with digital because i really appreciated the control i had over my colour schemes.I am very glad i changed your mind "Slightly" toward the digital medium.let me tell you there is no less effort put into this medium Laughing out loud.

Guest's picture

Normally I dont appriciate digitally animated picture cuz I think its cheating but all of your pictures have kind of changed my mind. theyre just so great ^_^ They would have been too hard to pull off with pencil or paint and look simply amazing!!

thrax-1's picture

aah, howdy kay Smile.well after "neptune",i still wanted to work with reflections. The whole story developed with me as i painted and changed the whole image.and finally the dust settled with this puddle ^^.I always believe things end up in my image for some narration or another!.it took me a while after i had finished the piece to think as to why its presence was there.but i got it Laughing out loud. Thanks muchly kay!.~Marley

Guest's picture

absolutely fantastic color and perspective. So glad I could get the comment thingy to work finally. I could look at this all day. Whatever made you think of that puddle? It is shear brilliance.

thrax-1's picture

Thanks jessica Smile,it does make sense to me,wow and what a compliment. Its nice to know i can activate some hidden senses Tongue.hahaarr!!.Thanks again jess much appreciated ^^.

Guest's picture

You know Marley, your art reminds me of the writing of Gene Wolfe. He's kind of fantasy but kind of sci fi, and amazingly complex, and that's how i feel about the scenes you create. I'm never sure exactly what is going on, but it always seems like a metaphysical journey of some kind just looking at your work. . . I think you hit on exactly the right balance of definition and ambiguity, so you are able to interest the unconcious mind as well as the conscious mind. If that makes any sense. If it doesn't, I'll just stick with "great work man!" Smile

thrax-1's picture

howdy rochelle Wink. Thanks for that.My problem solving for coveying depth is getting sharper!so i am pleased that you noticed these lil things Wink.

Have a good one rochelle~Marley

Guest's picture

This is beautiful, it has a very serene feel to it. The lines of the path are great because they really add to the sense of depth here, as do the dark shadows at the foot of the mountain.

thrax-1's picture

Surreal is the word Wink thanks caric ^^P.

Art at its best.
