" Do you believe in Fairies?"
Thank you, Dear Guest, glad you like this one!
I found this site doing a google search on Captain Hook. I must say I adore your art work. The way you do eyes. WOW. Just WOW.
You are welcome, Joshua, thank you for the nice words!
Wow. I can buy you with two comments? You're easy Thanks for explaining the highlights; I'll keep it in mind for the future (possibly). I look at your stuff, and I'm almost tempted to try my hand at watercolours, but they scan so badly and I don't have a digital camera. Well, maybe some day
Oh and once the nib becomes tacky just dot onto the surface then smudge with finger to get that random flash effect!
Aw God, Joshuan now it's me who's guilty of the blackmail rap! LOL! but hey I like the karate kid ref, yes I totally see that! the flash on his hook was achieved by wetting the end of the white watercolour pencil thus creating a more vibrant tone, the same as the highlights in his eyes! thank you heh heh I promise your pic will be Brille!
I don't know why, but I'm reminded of that scene in "Karate Kid" where they're trying to catch flies with chop sticks. The colours on this one are really vibrant. I'm curious, the flash of light off his hook is really good; is that coloured pencil also or did you add it in a digital program or something?
Thank you, dear Guest! yeah, I'd like to do more along the same lines as this one!
the picture is great but u need a anther one on the website
Thank you, Cath! I usually use family members as the basis of the characters, this one is me.....Hook that is, not the faery! LOL!
Your pictures put me in mind of a wonderful german illustrator whos name I can't remember right now (The Golden Book of fairy Tales) and I'm quite envious of your ability with pencils - the expressions and faces are so life-like and unique - Thanks for sharing
Thanks again Rochelle! and as far as I'm concerned, any comment that gives out inspiration is constructive! especially when it comes from such an amazing Artist like yourself!
Thank you, Rochelle! I kinda like the guy too!
Oh yeah, useful comment Lovely expression on this, are you an illustrator professionally? I love the way you have highlighted the different planes of his face...Sorry, I can't come up with something constructive
Oh, how gorgeous is this?! I LOVE Captain Hook!
Many thanks, Stefany! this from you is a lovely compliment!
This is beautiful! And in colored pencil! Truelly I find that a hard medium to work in. Very exquisite....their expressions are priceless! ^^
Thanks, Kay! you're right I should have put this one in the souls gallery instead of Robin, I think it's got more bite!
I had to come see your Capt Hook after the WIP post of Peter....Oh this is so great. And you do your self a lot. LOL...You got a great face...This could have been your gallery of souls piece. Wonderful pose and rendering....All the little minute touches too that make a great work.
I must visit more often
Thank you for the kind words, Miriam! I think your pencils are pretty cool too!
Your work is so beautiful! and watercolor pencils too! This one brings a smile to my face and reminds me of my younger years! Thank you for the kind words you posted in my gallery. I'm off to check out the rest of your wonderful works.
Thank you, Kulbongkot! Yeah! you are absolutely right, I used light grey cartridge paper for this one, as it helps with the white highlights, the pencils where Derwent watercolours, thanks again! I love it when such interest is shown in my stuff!
you do very lovely skin tones and your shading is exquisite..
and OMG you did that with coloured pencils?? what brand did you use?? at first it hought you used pastels or someting..
and did you do this on some kind of coloured paper?? i can see that its not entirely white..nahh.
anyyywayy get that hoook away from me its scary..j/k
Thank you, Bill! great reaction, I wanted to give a really lethal appearance to the hook!
Great stuff James, that hook is quite menacing - your colour pencils are just too good!!
Y'know Anita, I think you are absolutely right, John Cleese would make a suitably manic James Hook! thank you for your lovely comments, and I'll be watching your gallery for more of your marvellous creations!
James, I just love your "James Hook". It is so excellently done. I think if they make your drawing into a movie, John Cleese would definitely have to play this role. I am attmepting my first color pencil piece, and if it can be just half as good as yours I'll be happy. Can't wait to see more!
Thank you, Nicole! it's always great to hear from someone who's work you admire!
Love the expression on Hook's face! Kind of manic. Your pencil work is so detailed! By the by, thanks for the lovely comments!
Many thanks, Fenris! I will be watching your gallery for more of your lovely work!
