THAT IS NICE WORK

forestrogers's picture

Wonderful image...

Thank you!
I'm quite bowled over by such a compliment. I think this is how I envisioned Mordor when I first heard the story at the ripe age of four. Wink

Eek! Looking at this makes me want to hide behind my keyboard 0.0 Normally Mordor is portrayed as a hell type thing, you know, fire, volcanoes, etc. The way you have done it makes it so much scarier, because it's as tho the one that rules there is a cold and heartless being, moreso than just a warlord. And the way there is bright light and yet it cannot penetrate the shadows, shows that evil lingers in every corner. Love it!! Very intense, my hat off to you.

Ta very much Smile

As for detailed stories from simple pictures, my next one will be just a white canvas - cleverly hidden inside will be a really dramatic snowstorm with white armoured knights fighting killer (white) polar penguins.

The best part about this imo is how
get so much result with so little. Very monochrome, very simple composition, little detail, but enormous atmosphere. Great stuff!

soni's picture

Thank you very much, I like the idea of something that is 'pleasingly dark'!

portalrun's picture

Excellent inerpertation Soni, you really captured the atmosphere, so pleasingly dark, great job...

soni's picture

Thanks Denny!!

Thank you so much Patrick! And that's an extra special compliment coming from such a talented chap! Smile

wow this is really dramatic! i love the atmopshere you have created. nice. i really enjoyed the rest of your landscapes!

This piece is a knockout, from composition to technique. Everything is just right! It implies so much, and puts in just enough hints of detail that we (the viewers) fill in ourselves.. Very artistic!

soni's picture

Huzzah!
And how about pulling out the acrylics too?

Guest's picture

I adore this one - totally my favorite - makes me want to pull out the ol' watercolours and go for it.

Good grief, I've gone red, lol! Thank YOU Kay! You were quite right about putting up the link in the forum!

Guest's picture

Oh my goodness. I think this is my favorite. You are so talented...I am triping over my tongue trying to think of words...I guess "thank you" would be best.

soni's picture

Thank you! Smile

soni's picture

Thank you so much, what a lovely thing to say! Smile As for the pixellation, thanks for the heads up! I shall certainly look into it when I get the resolution on my monitor fixed!

Guest's picture

speechless... one hell of a way to paint mountains. Dark rock on a bright day, very good indeed. As for the rest... I don't think I have to add anything to the rest of the comments...

Great job Soni!

This illustration perfectly captures the mood of Tolkien's writing. I wish this would have been a scene in the movie.
(looks a little pixelated though)

Thank you very much mysterious guest person!

this is one of those peices you feel you could walk into.to me , it sets a very eerie mood...very beautifully done! i love the colors.

soni's picture

What a fantastic thing to say and what a great thing to wake up to, thanks Paul! Smile

soni's picture

Laughing out loud, Thanks Nell! Lol. The colours are a bit 'nice' for Mordor I think, but apparently Sauron had very good decorators.

Absolutely amazing! Scenery is not my strong suit, so I really love looking at images of epic scenery. It has such a majestic feel to it, I cant wait for more. Wow! ^_^

elven-nell's picture

I would almost be tempted to say it looked serene, if I weren't so scared! Smile

soni's picture

Thanks Stella! Between us we could illsustrate Lord of the Rings, you do the beautiful moving scenes and I do the spooky ones, lol Smile

devilry's picture

A fine day indeed! Wonderful job on the mountain peaks, one can almost feel the cold, moist air! I love the transition from light at the top to deepest dark. All hazily impressionistic, yet I see a lot of detail! V v beautiful.

soni's picture

Wow! I'm (almost) speechless! Such great compliments, and coming from the artist who created that sexy vampire too, thank you! Smile

soni's picture

Thank you Bryan! I really do enjoy working with a restricted palette, and I can see that looking around the galleries here is going to be a wnderful way to learn more about colour use! (As well as everything else).

Art at its best.
