Artwork Description

This was made with both Adobe Elements and Corel Painter 8. Both are very good programs when used together. I have come a long long way since I have been here in the past. This is a sci-fi self portrait of myself expressing the feelings of hoplessness as we drift through rough times in life. Things aways tend to fix themselves but other things we must take the first step in fixing.

Japenese style, I guess it looks like that Smile
It was how I always used to do my makeup before I went out to the clubs Tongue

Candice. This is something that words alone can describe, nor come close to its beauty. You are truely talanted. I like the Japanise styled makeup. It Makes ...Well how I feel the sorrow in her eyes become even more Accented and captivating.

Thanx Jonny Smile
I tried to give the piece a hardened yet soft look... im not too sure how it turned out thats why the visitors to my gallery get to comment.

First of all, my name is not GUEST it's Martina. Second, I love this pic! You have awsome work. Keep it up!

Excellent. Delicate, despite the hardened look of the clothing style.

funny thing is, summer is pretty well done here in ontario... Sad
it will be a long time at this rate before i magically get one approved... the methods really puzzle me sometimes i don't understand alot of the rejection reasons with my own work when i have seen what an editor had kindly posted to help us out a little in the forum... i have this one really good one i had finished and it got rejected... i don't know what to do with it anymore... so i am taking a quiet time. i will try to add more when i can.

William, I don't take what you have said in the wrong manner... not in the least... thanx for the imput i can use it for future pieces.. that was my first real look at doing a human face. so yes there are things i can improve on and there is always room for improvement Smile

Candice, beautiful job!

I dunno if you'd consider going back into it at all (I know the work we post is supposed to be exclusively "finished"), but there is an area that I think you could improve upon, and since it's digital you wouldn't be jeopardizing anything.
The shading on the right cheek, all the way down to the mouth, needs to be tweaked. Namely, it needs to be lightened a bit, and slightly more uniform. The main cheekbone shadow starts off describing the form well, but as it nears the jawline it stops telling that form properly.
The area around the corner of the mouth looks a bit off to me... I think it's meant to be shading, but it registers more like the ghost of a somewhat larger mouth painted over. Lastly, I like the background, and think you should keep it hazy like you have it... but you should but a bit more detail into the trees. You've got some in there already, but you could increase the sensation of depth and make that part of the painting a little more interesting with a little bit more of the teensy spindly branches scattered around.
I hope you don't take any of these suggestions in the wrong spirit. I love the piece, I think you've done some really mar

Thank you Smile
I have tried to make other pictures in the same style, its hard... may have been a one time image I don't know.

I think the picture looks really awesome, the change of colors between light and dark and shading is really intense. I especially like the depth of the spikes and the other necklaces, very cool.

Thanx James... it was just a dopey picture of me i painted over... the original looked soo bad, no makeup, i was wet from sweating in a hot room... it was EW.. is all i could say.. Smile

Great facial study, Candice! the eyes are amazing, full of inner emotions, I've seen expressions like this in old pre-raphaelite paintings, it's so unusual to see in modern stuff, lovely dark moody colours too!

xsynthetix's picture

thanx Kurtis, i kept on myself trying all kinds of new things, even tutorials but those weren't good enough to help me... im kinda stupid with those unless i teach myself the steps in my head... this is what i came up with of myself.

xsynthetix's picture

the original picture of myself used for reference i can say looked like hell.. lol
thanx for the comment Tom... i deleted all my stuff partially because i wasn't really happy with it and my ability at that point... so i left and came back when i felt a little better about it.
