Artwork Description

This one was a lttle experimental painting done several years ago. I was trying out the idea of doing a tonal drawing in sepia watercolour and adding the colour afterwards. I thought it worked out reasonably well and many pieces done in this style followed. Scout being one of them.

*Good thing I'm hiding down here in the brush* She gives me the heebeejeebees! I'm certain I've seen this piece before... an Elfwood gallery as well? Either way, it's terror-ific! (Corinna)

Thanks again Theresa. Yes, watercolour can be a real pain, so I work small Smile

Thank-you very much. The sky is very easy to do. It is a simple watercolour wash followed by some paint spatter. You simply load an old stiff bristle brush with watercolour and pull the bristles toward you which will cause the paint in the brush to fly off and create the speckled effect that you like. You can do it with a tooth brush but I use an old oil painting brush about an inch wide. You have to be sure to cover up the places that you don't want to splatter. Larry

Um...do you have any tutorials anywhere on the web? Because I'm very interested with the way you got the sky to look like that, with those little black flecks everywhere.

Larry, your work is magnificent. I too am a fan of Froud, Rackham and Alan Lee. Your work has a timelessness about it, and is a wonderful balance of beauty and whimsy. This piece in particular strikes me, and is such a joy to behold. What dreams it might inspire!

Rachel - I'm working on it. I may have something new to post in a day or two.
It may be a little darker though.

I have pleasantly amused by your work. It's fun, imaginative, and beautifully executed. You have made me and my wife total fans of your work. I would like to find published work of yours...do you have any titles?

Fascinating, this has a C.S lewis flavor to it.

Art at its best.
