Artwork Description

War of the Outcast appeared on the cover of the same-titled novel by Michales Warwick Joy. Care was taken to make sure the sword was accurately portrayed. The Japanese-style drawing in the background is from a scene in the book.

I'm really glad to see such accurate detail on the sword! Impressed by how much thought went into it. I like the reflection on the blade. Great work.

Thank you! Just takes practice. The background took lots of layers to get the shading gradient. I worked on a smooth surface, so all of those layers done at 90 degrees to each other ended up giving a rice paper feel.. a very happy accident.

The original was 8" x 18".

I can't believe this was done in colored pencil! You are a true master. When I first saw it I thought that it had to be a digital pic. Excellent!

Your handling of the pencils is extraordinary. which's the size of the original work?

Ohh, I love samurai swords and this is a beautiful rendering. You can almost feel the sharpness of the blade. Keep up the good work Smile

Art at its best.
