Artwork Description

Mediavallia is my submission to the ranks of idealized female fantasy characters - complete with impossibly big hair, and a gryphon-like companion. She's my own creation, and has the attributes of various cats - spots, a tufted tail, pointy ears, and so on. The detail was actually relaxing to do. It was a challenge to blend the human features with feline yet end up with a (hopefully) pleasing result. Pencil on Bristol.

Thank you! But I don't think I am better than anyone; I'm just a girl who likes to draw. I firmly believe ANYone who practices a lot and puts their heart into it can draw too!

I do sell some prints through my site. Thanks again for commenting!

Thank you for your very kind comments! If you feel that this picture speaks something to you, I am very honored, and of course I never mind if people print my work out for personal use, as long as it isn't re-sold.

Hey, thank you, lone_wolf! He was a lot of fun to draw!

Thank you so much! But I would have to say the same and MORE for your beautiful, luminous work! Smile

Actually you hit the nail on the head with that one! She was originally created for Ursula Vernon's LJ "Art Challenge - Cliché's" challenge. I drew her using things I often see in fantasy and anthro art - I gave her HUGE hair, impossibly tight clothes, a large bust but a flat stomach, a ubiquitous companion animal, lots of spangly things on her outfit, dark figure outlines but light body shading, and - you got it - spots but very little body fur!

She actually does have REALLY short body fur, here: http://synnabar.critter.net/Various%20Uploads..../Syn-Mediavalliadet02.jpg & http://synnabar.critter.net/Various%20Uploads..../Syn-Mediavalliadet03.jpg, but it doesn't show up in the small scan. I didn't want to add too much fur or I'd be getting away from the typical-catgirl cliché. BTW: Constructive criticism and questions are always welcome! Thanks! :

Wow! Thank you, Marilyn! That is a big compliment - I've admired your art since I saw it years ago!

you did a magnificent job drawing this being. Now i understand you are blending in the human with the feline, but why is it that her ears have fur yet her face is furless, the same goes for her entire body, i would assume she would have fur considering the patterns. But if there is fur on her you never drew any texture for it. She also doesnt have Whiskers. I am not dissing your work, it is a delightful drawing, i am just pointing out somethings i noticed & wondered about. Well either way keep up the terrific job!

This is one of the most beautiful representations of the cat goddess Bastet! She protects women and cats and is Egyptin in her pahtheon. May I print her out and use her as the image for my alter to Bastet? I am an ordained Wiccan High Priestess and I am always searching for excellent representations of the Egypting Goddesses and Gods...Sincerely, Marilyn F. Daniel H.P.
