Artwork Description

After an initial drawing, each layer of paper is handcut using x-acto blades and archival papers and assembled with acid-free glue. Each color is a separately cut piece of paper. Unicorns are a traditional symbol in the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of scherenschnitte, often showing up on wedding papers and hope chests. This unicorn is a non-traditional form.

Thank you. Unfortunately the scan doesn't seem to have picked up the subtlety of the darker black and pale gray "threads" of the background's mulberry paper which help lend more interest to the background in real life. Ah well, I guess that's one more reason to see my work in person, right? Wink

Wow… Your work is stunning. I love the mane on this unicorn. The background is a little drab, in my opinion, but overall this is an amazing piece of work!
