Artwork Description

A cursory glance might have given the impression of dullness, perhaps even simplicity; if life has tutored me to anything, however, it is that first impressions can be dangerously wrong, and in this case a second, closer look revealed a sharp intelligence within the hazel eyes, and a subtlety that belied the cultivated coarseness of his features. I was at somewhat of a loss in saying just what this man was; he could have been a philosopher or a mountebank, a killer or a clown.

Another great portrait! The face has real character. I especially like the skin texture and detail. Sometimes people done on the computer are too beautiful, too smooth, and look like they're made of plastic. Barbie and Ken dolls, GI Joes in armor. In other words, I LIKE IT!

Hi Theresa, and thanks for the comment. The quote is mine, from a novel I'm currently attempting to write in which Tragin plays a leading role. The main character, whose words they are, will appear here after some 'minor touchups'!

Very expressive, reminds me of portraits by Chuck Close. The details are fascinating-- I like the rosacea and the scar.
So, what's the quote from?

Art at its best.
