Artwork Description

Glorfindel, and part of Asfaloth Tongue. My favourite LotR character, who incidentally got cut from the movie (oh well, I probably wouldn't have been satisfied with the casting, even though they did an amazing job on everyone else XD). Ah, yeah... about 8 hours total, hope you like Smile.

I also forgot to add that while painting this, I was extremely torn as to whether I should have him grasping a bow or a sword ^^;. Being so indecisive, I resorted to leaving him emptyhanded, as such, it looks a little awkward (as some viewers noticed XD). In the future I think I'll be adding in a sword (unless more people would like to see a bow there? Laughing out loud), but for now I just thought I'd make a note of it!

He was my favorite too!!! I was very upset to see the damsel in distress take his place Sad

So....will will be blessed with a portrayal of Ecthelion in the future??? Laughing out loud

Yay for Glorfindel! Nay, I don't think we'd be satisfied with the casting. Sword versus bow? I do believe Glorfindel wielded a sword.

I don't know. I don't picture him as an archer, but I don't think a sword would work in the picture...have him holding the emerald he puts on the bridge, it works for the story. Just a suggestion.

Hmm...I like your elvish armor a teensy bit better than they depicted in the movies. And I was disappointed when he was cut from the movies...along with Tom Bombadil...Quickbeam...Mouth of Sauron...Elladan & Elrohir...etc. Oh well. By the way, the point of this comment was to compliment your work. Great picture of the Elf Lord, keep up the good work Jen. I hope to see more.

I agree, this is wonderful. I especially like his circlet; it draws attention to his hair (which might otherswise fade into the background). The armor is perfect: it looks strong but appropriately decorative.

Yes, I think a sword -- probably a fairly long sword -- would be best in his hand.

I love it. I've always liked him. Yeah kind of feel he should have something. I like the colors.
Not to sure about this. I mean I might have this much flipped, but I don't think so; In the book don't they talk about him haveing bells?

Guest's picture

it actually looks like he is caressing the tree. As elves do naturally.
An awesome piece of work.

Glorfindel is one of my favorite LotR characters as well, so kudos to you for makiing him look so...Elf-like Smile I'm seeing more of a long-ish sword...But that's just me.

Guest's picture

Or maybe he's reaching for something...

Guest's picture

He does look a little like something just fell out of his hand. Smile

I LOVE the costuming and the headpiece is wonderful. Great job!

Heheh, I just modified the description of the piece, but to save your time I'll just cut/paste a little Smile. While painting this, I was extremely torn as to whether I should have him grasping a bow or a sword ^^;. Being so indecisive, I resorted to leaving him emptyhanded, as such, it looks a little awkward. In the future I think I'll be adding in a sword, as it *does* look awfully disturbing to see him make a grasping gesture without...something...to grasp^^. Thank you for the support! And also the critique Smile.

Nice work Jen...I can`t help feeling he should be holding something. I really like the Elfin feel of whole piece...

Many thanks... Hopefully it's not too far from readers' mental image of him Smile (or else I'm reading the books all wrong!) I'm happy you enjoy it!
