Finnoula, The Swan Maiden by draigathar
In the Irish folk tale, Finnoula, daugher of Lir, is cursed by her stepmother. She and her brothers are all turned into enchanted swans and doomed to remain that way for 900 years. At the end of the curse she turns back into a human, but as a human 900 years old she immediately dies. Here I've captured her as the wave of transformation sweeps across her - part of her body is still the swan, part the maiden she once was, and her human hand is just beginning to wither, which she stares at in shock and dismay. Finnoula is fully sculpted from epoxy and polymer clay, painted with acrylics and adorned with beads and real feathers. She stands 16" tall.
