Artwork Description

A long time ago I made a rather unconventional absinthe poster, which has done really well. However, my mind has tossed the idea for years that I should so some sort of cool pin up style poster for the famed notorious drink. While I am not a fan of the drink itself (I don't like the taste) I am a fan of it's phosphorus-like glow and the folklore that surrounds the drink that was very popular in the late 19th century and early 20th century (especially in Paris). Once banned through various countries, it was thought that the consumer of the drink would go mad, often times envisioning green fairies. Hence the nickname 'The Green Fairy.' Once thought to be a sort of addictive psychoactive drug, recent studies have found this to be false. Rather, people would get so drunk from it they would see things.. like green fairies Wink Also a fan of the Art Noveau movement, I incorporated the styles of various artists related to the genre into this piece, as well as fashion from the currently popular 'steampunk' style which is really awesome and combines Victorian and Edwardian era clothing and technology with fascinating new fantastical ideas and inventions and really cool stuff like that.
