Artwork Description

"...an eternal life were all you can do is watch.
an eternal life were all I could see was darkness.
Yes... monsters made me blind, and in blindness I could then see better than ever.
feel, understand, and learn. You called. I heard the forest cry.
we are now one. Lords of the forest."

This is an "Unknown Depths" scene with my 2 characters, the Featurless Knight Anlaf, a specter, and the huge beast, Ayamokoseed, the forest guardian. And no, this was not inspired by LOTR, these character's were made up before I ever read my first fantasy book XD

done with color pencils and some watercolor pencils, oh, and a white I-don't-know-what for the splashes ^^U

Beautiful piece...! I love the bird especially, somehow...

It takes a lot to impress me. But when I saw that massive, beautiful horse with two huge, gorgeous horns, my jaw dropped. For that I take my hat off to you.

shading? well depends, if the pencil I'm using is dark enough i can simply push on it. If not I can overlay it with a darker tone till I'm happy or, if it's watercolor pencil you can overlay witha tincy bit of black and mix with a wet brush.
obviously though, I'm not the right person to ask cos I kindda come up with my techniques since I still didn't get the chance to take lessons.

I can't say how much i love this drawing! and done before you've read fantasy! like... wow! you mush have read fairytales Wink. it's so majestic and dark and glowing and dreamy... eclipse, waterfall, almost-unicorn creature, almost-phoenix creature, almost-but-not-really-a-wraith and awesome forest, all in one picture! one would expect to see an 'editor's pick' label attached to it...

I love this. This is so beautiful and the moon is so very bright and beautiful. Its amazing how you can do that with color pencils. I like to draw with color pencils and I know for a fact that, thats one hell of a drawing. If you dont mind I would like to ask you for some advice. How do you do the shading. I hope my work it gets sumited soon so you can see and give me some advice!

WONDERFUL!

*jaw drops* Good lord! You must have been REALLY bored one day! lol. Seriously, I like the way the horse is bigger than the knight. It makes humans seem so... tiny, compared to the world. I LOVE IT!!

Guest's picture

dang...your good...ever think of drawing for other ppls an their fantasy stories? Wink you'd do a damn good job of it...

Guest's picture

Amazing work, it makes me tremble! Mixed with Nightwish in headphones, it produses... well, produses... damn, try it yourselves. Great work.

Guest's picture

thats one big horse. Like it alot

belbe's picture

hehe, yeah a massive beast, as I've said, 2.20m at the base of the neck... that'd make over 3meters tall I supose

Guest's picture

beautiful...such clarity. I love working with colored pencil, and you've done a fantastic job with it. I love the horns on the horse-like creature, very creative. lovely.

sirloracaz's picture

This is really awesome. I like the horns. The background in great too. But is the horse supposed to be giant? The man looks so small....

belbe's picture

hell, yeah, but that's not quite a horse, the knight is 1.80m tall and the horse is around 2.20m by the base of the neck! O_O!!!

Guest's picture

I cant help but admire how beautifully done the horse is! He looks so flawless! That is really an amazing looking horse. Not to be mean, but the horse is so big it makes the night look like a little kid! Laughing out loud

plain A3 common white paper, the one you use for school work. ^^; though the very few watercolor pencils I have helped a lot, I use a tiny wet brush over the work to help blend the colors on some places.

Guest's picture

this drawing is amazing.

Guest's picture

This is like one of THE most awsome pictures I have EVER seen. Sweet job! ^.^

eyodius's picture

shiznut O_O Was that done on white paper or black paper?

Guest's picture

This is an unbelievable picture! And u did it with colored pencil? i also am really happy with the proportions on Ayamokoseed, it's not very often that u find competely correct proportions on a horse. Plus, The creature silhouetted against the moon completes the dark feeling that the whole picture gives. great work!

Guest's picture

I am deeply impressed. Your picture is very beautiful! It must have been a whole bunch of work!

Guest's picture

Absolutely beautiful! I love the lighting and shadowing! Marvolous!

Guest's picture

I agree. This is a very beautiful piece. I especially love the shadows and highlights, I can't believe they were done with colored pencils!

The detail is exceptional especcially with the use of colored pencil. I especcially love the tree and how you rendered the colors. The horse is marvelous. Wonderful.

Art at its best.
