Artwork Description

I wanted to do a winged cat, but I wanted to do something more than that. I had a lot of fun playing with all the different textures on this one, the fur, feathers, glass and stone all together made it a challenging piece to do. Especially getting the knotwork in the fur to look like a part of the fur and not something floating over the surface.

This is another pen and ink, watercolor and colored pencil painting. 11x17 on cold press illustration board. I discovered while working on this one that I enjoy hot pressed board much more as a working surface.

His fur and the pattern in it is just amazing... And you accomplished this with colored pencils/watercolor? I am in awe.

Neat idea! I love that you added patterns in the fur too.

Well, it was colored pencil with an ink and watercolor underpainting. The underpainting helps to keep the white of the paper from showing, and helps to give a good tone and softer texture to the drawing.

Wonderful work -- may I have one of the kiddies- when you got too many of them? The wings fit so perfect to her.

You've captured a real velvety texture with that cat's fur. Done in colored pencil? Wow.
