Artwork Description

A valkyrie on her silver steed on a war-torn land. The butterfly she is looking at is the manifestation of a soul of warriors who died on the battlefield. So, this picture has a combo of norse myth (valkyrie), greek myth (pegasus) and japanese myth (spirit butterfly), hohoho Laughing out loud

I entered this for the DAS/Epilogue Depict-a-Hero contest. Prints of this can be purchased over at http://www.deviantart.com/print/55652/

Fantastic painting, I love it.

Very Good

Guest's picture

I like it.
I think your use of the mixtures of light and shadows sets this picture aflame, so to speak. The butterfly is an extra added something which just appeals to me.

This is an amazing picture, however Pegasus does not have a horn. That would be an Alicorn (I believe).

This is nice. Congrats on editor's pick. I agree that the horse anatomy (mainly from the neck down) could use some work, but the rest of the picture is lovely.

Guest's picture

the wings could be worked on but other then that, its cool!

Absolutely beautiful! The Unipeg (Unicorn and Pegasi) is porportioned correctly, I've been around horses since I was 2 so I know a bit lol. I love fantasy art and this one is really captivating and incredible. Great work!

Ok...If I can have my own opinion..well I dont like it...The Horse is just wrong - its eyes, shape of hear (->ears) and esp. its nose...Ist it a bit too big olso? She look like XXI film star...I love your techinique - the sky is perfect...but...well not everybody has to love it right/:)

beautiful colors! Smile

Heh, originally I was planning for something else other than the butterfly, but now I'm glad I put that there instead Smile

I'm happy you find it balanced, Jeff. Composition is something I'm constantly learning.

Thanks Agudo Smile

Thank you Kirsi Smile. I want to give the painting a slight melancholic feel. I've always find the valkyrie legend of picking up the souls of brave warriors who died in battle to be a little sad. For every one that is chosen, there'll be many who won't and be left behind.

Thanks Scott. Glad you like it Smile

Wonderful work, really it caught my eye over many other thumbnails. This has awesome lighting all over, mysterious, warm and kind. But the same time the character looks very strong and godly. I really love the horse's eye, it's like it's breaking to tears any second, such a sad gaze. Yes, the red light from the butterfly really makes this even more beautiful and carefully done.
Once again, good job =)

It is amazing and the light coming from the butterfly is mysterious.
Good job !

Pegasus doesn't have a horn, but Unicorns do. So perhaps it's a "Unisus"?

Art at its best.
