Artwork Description

gouache, colored pencil, chalk. This painting was originally a present for my sister Victoria. I had these sketches of this winged mermaid in my sketchbooks for a few years, probably inspired by a restaurant name in Cape May, NJ (near where I used to live). The place was called Angel of the Sea. "Hmmm." I thought.

Thanks, Forest! The sea/sky effect wasn't intentional--I was so busy trying to make the underwater effects work...!

Lovely... beautiful sky-water feeling!

Thank you for your flattering comments, James! She went through a couple revisions before she got to this state. And I almost gave up on her out of frustration but luckily took a vacation (to London) and came back and thought, "Well...maybe she's not so horrible..." Someone please smack me on the back of my head.

Stunning underwater effects, Raine, beautifully original mermaid and your colours are simply gorgeous.

Thank you, Ansley. I wasn't even aware this had happened. I thank all the sharp-eyed Epilogue viewers for their quick responses as well. Had Andrea actually painted this at age 7 in 1998 I would've been very impressed... since I myself was 34 years old when I painted it.

Raine, this image has been stolen from you by Andrea Solberg; it's in her gallery, and it has your signature on it. Also, considering this person is only 15, and your piece is dated 1998, this is quite obviously not hers.

Thank you very much!

Very elegant! I love the way you gave the tail a shimmer too. All in all, a beautiful piece.

Thank you! Wow, I didn't even know who Angelina Jolie was when I painted this! (I do now, of course.)
But I've been told that the guy in my other mermaid picture, "Siren of Warsaw," looks like Bono!

Aw gosh shucks. (kicks ground with foot, blushing.)
Thank you. My breakfast tastes so much better now for some reason... Laughing out loud

I'm a huge collector of mermaid art, but never have I seen such a beautiful mermaid like this one! She looks like Angelina Jolie to me if you look quickly! Great work!
