Artwork Description

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort." --- pen and ink on paper. --- More art from Pierre Carles at

Thank you Matthew. Maybe it is just me being vain, but I definitely appreciate unoriginal compliments too, so keep them coming ! Laughing out loud

good work, Pierre. and i hate to be unoriginal here, but that is indeed one fine tree!

Ah Cris ... it always makes me blush when I receive a comment from you (seriously). Smile I really LOVED drawing all these intricate lines in the bark and the leaves with that metallic pen and India ink. And the thickness of the ink gives the lines a special texture, which add to the effect. Too bad all this is lost in the scan. If I had more time, I would surely do more pieces like these. Maybe they are not my best, but they definitely are the more relaxing for me ! Thanks again, see you.

Thank you Rita. Do not worry about giving advice in the WIP ... this was a tough one really, because most of what worked at original size started to get blurry once reduced at small resolution. It was difficult to know what to do about it. But with everyone's help, it seems I finally found a not-so-bad solution to merge the elements in the picture. Thanks again for your support. Smile

Thank you Nathan. The hobbit did not come out too well at this resolution, though. In the original (which is rather large), it looks much less crude. Well ... it was hard on me to cope with the 700 pixels limit for that one !

Wonderful work, Pierre! Loved it even in WIP - but didn't know how to help...
