The Long Voyage by spiked
As you can see from the lack of cannons and the small size; this a trade airship. Carrying all sorts of exotic and potentially tasty cargoes from one cityport to another over the gargantuan mountains in the centre of the world.
Obviously where there's people there's potential for money to be made, and the proprietors of the Mountain Goat Inn have decided that this valley airtrade route is the perfect place to set up shop. Passing airships can dock and enjoy some suspect looking home-made pies and disgusting local ale at extortionate prices before continuing upwards and over the mountain range to the lands ahead.
Painted over a series of weeks in photoshop, I started with a sketch and then made a model of the airship in google sketchup in order to get the perspective right. I may still have managed to muck it up slightly. For anyone interested the model is available to download here [link] at the Google 3D warehouse. You can also see a rough breakdown of how I approached the image on my blog: http://www.spikedmcgrath.com/blog/the-long-process/
