Artwork Description

This picture has two titles. Just to be awkward. The Mirror of Illusion is a song that I really like by the band Hawkwind and I did feel that it was quite appropriate for this picture. It is also called Dark Angel. What she sees in the mirror is an alter ego that she did not realize she had. She does not recognize the person who looks back from the mirror. It represents a period of change. I do intend the character to crop up in other paintings.
The reference for this picture was from a picture I took of the model Heidi who can be found on

It's virtually all Painter IX with the occasional bit of Photoshop. I just start with a pencil drawing and build the whole thing up like I would with paint. Building up the layers of colour. I really like the way Painter works it feels intuitive.

OMG, I was looking through your gallery and I thought you were using oils or acrylics until now!

Thanks for your comments. I think Painter IX helps with getting away from the digital look. The brushes I work with feel quite intuitive to use.

Great work - and I esp. enjoy that it doesn't look "digital"

Art at its best.
