Artwork Description

Now okay, this little guy may look like a relation to ‘Cousin It’ from the ‘Addams Family’, but in all the ghost stories I have ever heard, the one and only that has really gave me the creeps it that of ‘Castle Leap’ in Co. Offaly, Ireland. This castle is believed to be one of the most haunted places in Europe.
The castle has a history of gruesome murders with the most sacrilegious occurring nearly 500 years ago when a member of the O’Carroll Family, killed his brother (a priest) in the middle of chanting the holy rites during a sacred mass. These, amongst many other terrible things (mainly the Oubliette, that I urge you to read about using the link at the bottom) that have happened here are believed to have summoned and nurtured the malevolent spirit of the ‘elemental’. A primitive ghost that attaches itself to a particular place in mainly rural locations. It is about the size of a sheep with the decaying face of a human and is thought to be a malicious, terrifying and unpredictable spectre.
It’s not the thought of it causing any bodily harm that freaks me out about this particular spirit. It is just the idea of having something sooooooo evil appear and just stare into your eyes that just gives me the creeps. Hella creeps.
To learn more about the castles bloody history and to read about an apparent ordeal with the elemental, please read here,

Cheers very much for the kind words. Yep this is the ONLY thing that has creeped me out in ages. Didn't realise until recenty that I actually live not far from the castle it's meant to haunt.

Cheers Noah, yeah he's a creepy wee dude. Most unsettling thing about this entity is that it does nothing but stare at you, which I find more frightening than being chased.

"It" is like a car crash. You want to look away, but you can't! I'm not saying it is bad, because it's awesome. It's like he has some sort of mind control thing to make you stare at him in awe. Are you sure he isn't in the drawing?

You're awesome! I could never have the patience to draw this! Sad thing is, that I'm looking at this at 1:00 in the morning. FREAKED OUT! Lol. I saw it on Truth or Scare, and wanted to show my brother. "It" is just plain scary.

Cheers Cristina, a lot of time involved in most of my work as I'm a sucker for detail. Sometimes it can drive me nuts but the only advice I can give is to look very carefully at what you're drawing and with time you can replicate it exactly. It takes a lot of patience and I'm still learning. Start of sketching the shape lightly then add detail, shadows and highlights where you see them to give depth. Personally I think anyone can draw, but not everyone has the patience.
I did a fine art degree when I was 18 and that helped a lot when dealing with composition, perpective, etc.
For this drawing I worked from photos of my hands then added the rest from my imagination. What I have learnt from fine art then helped to judge how everything else is affected by the light from the window.
So stick at it, and as you're 16 you have plenty of time. I use a 2b, 3b and 5b pencil, a putty rubber and a blending stump for most of my pencil drawings. Most are then changed to sepia after being scanned as I hate grey.
You can see more of these and my paintings at wardartz.com.
Cheers again for the kind words, take care.

wow, your artwork...okay, after looking at them all i have to same im completely speechless. as a 16 year old that absolutely loves drawing intricately, i have to say yours trumps mine tenfold. the hands, personally, are my favorite. how you can put so much detail into them i truly have no idea, and im extremely curious as to how long it actually took you to do this drawing. with all my sketches i have white spots where there is no shading, and it seems here everything is covered. oh jeez, im SO out of your league its embarassing. what kind of materials did you use for this? it cant just be a pencil and paper...well, id feel pretty suckish if it were. anyhoo, you're work is absolutely amazing and im praising the heck out of you right now. post something soon!! Laughing out loud
