Artwork Description

Herne the Hunter, Cernunnos and the Green Man have similar traits:
What inspired me in this piece was to create an image based on all of the
positive aspects of this Old Religion. So I took inspiration from all three characters to create this God of the Forest. Herne the Hunter, Cernunnos and the Green Man are all associated with knowledge and wisdom of the forest: Herne the Hunter is watcher over the animal kingdom; Cernunnos is a fertility god; and the Green Man presides over the vegetable Kingdom and fertility, who is often celebrated on May day at the beginning of spring. I have used an owl as it's also associated with wisdom and knowledge, as well as a dragonfly to symbolise transformation. I personally wanted to show respect and honor to our Old Gods – those that help to watch over and protect the natural law of the Earth.
