Stilleven II: Zeemeermin by strangeling
"Stilleven II: Zeemeerminl" - a piece that debuted at the Celebration Spring Art Festival here in Florida! This "Stilleven" (Dutch word for "Still Life") - is the second in a series of works I have planned that feature "deconstructed" elements of still lifes inspired by the Dutch master painters of the 1500-1600s, along with faeries & nymphs (of course!). Zeemeermin means "Mermaid" in Dutch, and of course this cute mermaid brings a little "life" to this still life! A lot of fun details and countless references in this one, all popular elements included in historic Dutch still life paintings. Nautilus shells and nautilus shell vessels feature prominently in this one (two items I collect myself!). This is my own original acrylic painting.
