If you read mangas at all, this one reminds me of Clamp's Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, particularly the wings. Lovely job! I would not have been able to sketch the ornament so well after seeing it ~Hydra

No, I'm not.

You are a wiccan?

Really nice picture! Love the use of watercolour! Great stuff!

I am such a big fan of all of your work, but this has to be my favorite pic. Not as detailed as most of your gorgeous works, this one is simply stunning. The girl, her spirt and the knot work is amazing. I love it, I love it, I love it! Keep up the wonderful work, and never stop drawing!

THIS IS SOOOOO AWESOME! I love all of your stuff tho! this is one of the best I think!

puimun's picture

I paint using lots and lots of thin layers to build up the intensity of the colors slowly.

Guest's picture

this is very beautiful. how do you make such beautiful colors by just using the watercolor?

Guest's picture

If this is what happens when you get carried away...get carried away more often! Please!

My favourite piece, so much action, love the icons you use for this pict. the womans expression is wonderful as the as the "spirit" passes through her body, a truly wonderful piece. whether it be colour choice, composition or theme you grasp them all so well.

crista's picture

your gallery is so light and luminous....very stunning

Great piece! Stephanie. I like how carried the motif of the knots into the glowing ghost.

Guest's picture

Stephanie,
This piece is gorgeous! I love the pose, the lighting--heck! everything.

frodo's picture

Beautifully done Steph, I particularly like the Sorceress, and her total abandonment while being possessed by her own magic!...

Great stuff! I'm just discovering your gallery and your work is very beautiful.

I can never get them glowing! *mumbles oddly* But heyie, I like this one. Especially the knot thingie in the middle, I never seem to be able to make good looking ones... Hmm... I just don't quite understand how that glow is or where it comes? Seems like it's in the wall, and it kinda resembles a dragon.

The intensity of the light effects that you can achieve with watercolors frightens me; how do you do that! (no answer needed, I'm being melodramatic again, but I really am amazed at your skill with watercolors). But the most amazing quality about your artwork to me is the harmony and clarity of your compositions, no where else on the internet can I look at an artists thumbnails and read their composition so easily and readily as yours, it's like you have a "6th sense" for composition. You have a great style Stephanie, and your keeping the art of natural media alive. I salute you.

puimun's picture

Hm. Sometimes that's the hardest thing to remember when you're doing a bunch of commissions. Start to lose site of that....

kss's picture

once again, not surprised:)
Most of all (softly nice and wellcomposed) you got your own "touch", i think that its one of the hardest thing to reach.

puimun's picture

Oh yeah, she's supposed to be "consumed" by her own magic.... Thus the moths being drawn towards the flames....

puimun's picture

Was trying to get a glowy, PUSH of motion effect. Hopefully it's semi-successful?

puimun's picture

That's the fun part! =)

puimun's picture

Thanks!
The knot was based on this chinese ornamental piece I saw when I was in Japan. It was just this stone carving and I really liked the flow of it, so as soon as I left the museum, I sketched what I could remember. Then later on I added knotwork type stuff. So it's a mutant mix. =)

puimun's picture

Yeah, well like I said, i got a bit carried away! In the final piece actually, I kinda compressed it so that the moths and candle at the top are squished down below and you don't see the knot.

Guest's picture

I'm speechless....this is so very beautiful. I adore the symbolism and how the elements all tie into one another. If this is how you get carried away, then by all means...keep going!
ps, I agree with Liptak, the ornamentation is lovely, especially the moths and the shadows they cast.

Oh, I'm glad you got carried away with this one. I think this is one of my new favorites. I really like the contrast between the crystal clarity of the cracks in the wall and the over-exposed motion blur of the figure. Very very cool! Smile

WOW! I love this picture. I like the composition, the colors, the textures, and the lightning effects, but my fave part is the knot! Your knot-circle is excellent!!! As you know I adore the ornamentical things, so this picture is like a gift from you. Your art is fantastic, you demonstrated it again! Congrat Steph!

Am I correct in thinking AEG will just use the bottom half of this painting on the card? If so, I hope they have a promotion opportunity where they can use the whole painting. I love the candles and moths.

Art at its best.
