Queen of Annwn by heatherwind
As we welcome winter here in the northwestern hemisphere, what began as a random exercise in figure drawing transformed into my interpretation of the Welsh mother goddess Rhiannon - she who has been my matron muse for many years. Many view Rhiannon as a bright fey spirit - but what came to me when I began this was her aspect as Queen of Annwn, the Celtic Otherworld synonymous with the realms of the dead. Rhiannon is a potent symbol of fertility for all her associations with death and the Otherworld - a moon deity usually symbolized by a white horse, who can aid in overcoming enemies, exercising patience, working magick, and enhancing dream work.
