“I went off in a search of an Art Director willing to pay for that level of skill. Never found one. So when I want to do something in oil it is for private commissions or just me. We live in a digital era now. Long live digital! Damn ... I bit my tongue. :(“

Steve you nailed it – We DO live in a digital era, and what is even more sad in an era where art (well I speak about illustration) is worse paid than some years back, sure there are some top-stars still getting paid pretty well, at least I hope so Shock, but in general you really have to do much work for less money. But oh well, it is like it is.
However it is soooo good to see there are still some crazy enough people around still doing fantasy art, and still producing such high quality. LONG LIVE FANTASY ART (no matter if digital or traditional, sad enough we all have to jump in that digital field to be able to make at least some bucks, but to be true I love digital more and more)

Another thing, I found Simons comment somehow funny as what he could see in the piece above is just a detail of the whole wonder, so please Steve do me one favor and post the whole piece again, than all (who don’t know the complete artwork) can enjoy it again in its who

I was going to post "amazing", but that was when I thought it was digital. How you could do this in oil is completely beyond me *goes off in search of oil painting tutorial for painting lines of less than 1cm thickness...*

Excellent painting Steve. I really admire your color and detail work, everything is very well rendered. Fantastic stuff.

Phew. Awesome work here. Few people ever put this kind of effort and time into a painting. Such a unique character also, the expression is genius.

Amazing!
One can practically feel all the different textures in this painting! I'm full of admiration for the way you painted the folds and delicate patterns in the gold silk material. The intricate design on the throne is also stunning!

Art at its best.
