Thank you! This is exactly the type of tutorial I was looking for. Your information on use of color for highlights and shadowing and the wonderful technique of flipping the image has helped me immensely. Thank you very much for your time and your effort and your wonderful artwork!

At first I want to thank you for putting so much efford into your great tutorial, too. ^-^It is always very nice when amazing artists tell others how they work. Smile You did a great job on this guy! But.....Romans did not have beards, as far as I remember latin class! ^-^

I've looked at the pictures you have in your gallery and this is one of my favorites. (I love them all, really) In any case, it's an outstanding piece. My hat goes off to you. ^_^

I want to thank you for making this availiable. I had been wondering how do what you ahve done here and knowing photoshop and painter and just painting by hand I knew that a digital painting could not be al lthat complicated; there was just a certain method involved. Thank you very much. I've learn a lot from you.

This is exceptional. I just read the tutorial. It was very educational. I use the same method flipping the image around Wink

Hey Socar, no I haven't read that book.

socar's picture

I was just reading your tutorial on this picture and thinking...Have you read "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov? It's got Pontius Pilate in it...quite a different look at him, though.

Guest's picture

Looks like it's done with oils...Great job with that Wacom.I think this picture says it all about Pontius Pilate. What an evil, conceited man !

Guest's picture

I wish my hair looked like that. "8^) Heh, I saw that beard detail in your tutorial, and it's awesome. Whee, little scraggly hairs!

Socar: Thank you very much.

John: Thanks dude, I tried to get as realistic as I could, without using photo reference.

Tasha: Thanks!

Man this is really good. This looks like a real portrait considering the fact that no photo's or reference were used. You Rock man!
