This is Awesome work.I actually saw this when i first joined epilogue.and instantly i thought your up there umongst the best in epilogue,my veiw point after all this time hasn't changed. This and your helms deep artworks shoulda been editors picks, they are both grand in scale and very original..really appreciated now, since peter jackson and artists has cemented the aesthetic in movie history.thats an awesome balrog.

Amazing in detail!

i see ur point, maybe a hobbits hands would be thrown up in disapair or someting, but i felt that was too cartoonish, i felt that boromir and aragorn woudlnt be afraid, but isnt there fear in gimlis eyes?

Hey you. I never did see your most recent Tolkien works. Ya I'm lazy. Very nicely done here, strong lighting and architecture. I think, because the scene was really intense with the moment, that the characters look a little to calm. Since they aren't facing you and you can't tell their what expressions all I can go by is body posture. But it just seems like they should look more active to me. But hey that's just me. --- Miss Critic Smile

but panick is so hard to draw..heheh.gimlis kinda panicking and merry and pippin are being gormless hobbits as usual where as boromir and aragorn pretty much see thebalrog as a challenge and i dont think they would be scared in a panicked way.just legolas and gimli, and the hobbits not konwing whats happening, but maybe a hand thrown up in fear or terror from the hobbits might have helped.

I'm always in awe in front of artists being able to depict majesty in a scenery. You're the guy Smile Your new LOTR illustrations are imho some of your best works..

I like how you depicted Gandalf, his cape and the lighting around him is really fabolous! Though I have to admit that the others look a little bit too... calm. Still, a marvelous piece of art!

thanks unifrog girl,

thats how i imagine a balrog, a huge monstrouse muscular creature, half human and sort of bull, maybe a bigger scan would be beter, but elfwoods taking its time uploading new pics, maybe on that u might like the balrog beter since hes just a small red blob here.

caitmf1's picture

well the scene in my head was of merry looking down at the chasm, pippinlooking on in horror, ghimli shouting at legolas to stop crying like a sissy boy and aragorn holding back boromir before they both jump back onto the bridge to gandalfs aid. the next action scene i will take note and realy try to add more action in it.

Even without the title one can immediately identify the scene you`ve painted here, very readable interpretation of that LOTR scene! Your version of Gandalf looks just like I imagined him, I guess he`s mostly depicted more or less the same way, well long cape w/ long hat is cool so why change it ;D Even though you stayed close to Tolkin`s words there is plenty of your personal style and imagination in this piece. As for criticism, the Balrog seesm rather lame to me, not quite the ferocious monster I excpected, he looks like he is defeated already and sinking to the ground loosing his powers. I like the way you designed the Balrog, though. But my favorite part of this piece is Gandalf`s cape, very well done!

This one doesn't quite have the energy that your other work has. The lighting as usual is wonderful and so are the colors. But the characters seem a bit static for the situation.

Art at its best.
