"A figure in Japanese air-dry clays, paper, wood and mohair. My first favorite illustrator, discovered on my grandparents bookshelves before I could read, was Danish artist Kay Nielsen. His images have lived in my mind all these years, and I plan a set of art dolls that might inhabit his remote and magical world -- in the style of, but not copies of his creatures. The maiden on the white bear is from the tale East of the Sun and West of the Moon, found in Nielsens magnificent book by that name."
