Fantastic, I love them!! Judjing from all the coments you really succeded in creating all sorts of reactions.. Like I think all good artists do;) Art is ugly, art is beautiful, it's funny and anything your brain makes out of it.. An interaction between the two, the artist and the viewer. |
| (steven adams) |
some of the most powerful art has been ugly, nothing wrong with upsetting a few people, i would feel like a failure if i didn't. Thanks for stopping by. ;)

nice I think it is very nice. How did you come up with this idea? |
| (steven adams) |
well, there are a couple of meanings to the work, one is based on Johnathen Swift's tounge in cheek short proposal of eating children during the lean times when people are finding it hard to make ends meet. also its a comment on how we are constantly over populating and getting more and more squashed in like sardin's in a can. but in all, the idea just to me whilst eating a can of them lovely suculant fishies!!!!
MMMMM.... Brunswick! rip open a can of those babies! sometimes inspiration just happens at the oddest of times eh!

|
|
Epilogue Guest 2009-06-21 |

I think i see Babies being smothered by over production of goods. Sardines are probably fine fresh but we are determined to manipulate everything until it can last as long as possible(for this particular example)to make us feel safe and it is going to affect the quality of life our children have. That may be reading into it too much but there's my feedback. It is gross at first and i commend you on your courage to use babies in such a cold way because it does make people jump back and say what the f***. |
| (steven adams) |
yeah, i think i know what you're saying here, we use up all resources until we have nothing left then what? in that way the babies do ram home the idea, that was the point of using the text in the background. the image is up to you, to make of it what you will, i'm glad its making different people think in different ways. good or bad i'm open to all comments. yours is a well thought out and much more welcome than some of the mindless slagging offs on here! babies are taboo, but some of them grow up to be right monsters eh! thanks for stopping by.

babies in a tin i think there is alot to the art than what people see. people tend to take things at face value without analysing, leading to Misjudgment. if you look at the picture with lack of judgement, you will see some fine art! |
| (steven adams) |
thanks, finally some positive comments, it is that whole thing about taking time to look, thinking what it means and not just thinking this is sick. there is more to this than just art for art sake. thanks for the well thought through and mature comments ;)

What?! why is that babies face blue and purple??? |
| (steven adams) |
i may have used a little of those colours, but i think the main reason is the resin that was used to give the liquid effect has pooled a little in the facial features and that had a slight tint to it.

babies inbath tub why r they in the bath tud |
| (steven adams) |
they are in a sardin tin!

Epilogue Guest 2009-02-17 |
... i think this isn't a right thing to show. i find this horrifying. |
| (steven adams) |
sorry to offend you but it was created to provok reaction, the very fact that you find it disagreable tells me that it has achieved its goal, this is what art is about, it was made for a fine art diploma and had something to say as well as to shock. its not just art for art sake. The best art is the art that makes us think. once again, sorry to offend, you're not the first and probably won't be the last, but thank you for your comments and for stopping by.

Epilogue Guest 2008-12-25 |
This reminds of the short story "Babycakes" by Neil Gaiman. Fantastically disturbing. And I agree with Anna's comment in that I too get used to "safe" art, and it's nice to be jolted awake by something like this every once in a while :) |

I think you have serious issues, man!
This is just proof of how sick our society can get! |
| (steven adams) |
really? issues, me! no, i think i'm a well rounded member of society, i'm a responsible parent a husband, i don't smoke rearley drink, certainly don't go near drugs of any kind, i don't break the law apart from maybe the speed limit slightly every now and then. i don't have issues! i'm fine me! ;)

Having a poem of J Swift as background - does that not constitute a copyright violation not being credited in your description?? Sorry if being picky on an interesting piece... and new to Epilogue, and just, well, wondering?? |
| (steven adams) |
hmmm, never thought of that, good point, but i don't think you can really gain any knowlage of the story from the small amount of text that is being shown, but i take your point without taking offence. thank for your comment! :)

I like that the paper on the back also is related to the picture... |
| (steven adams) |
Hey, well spotted, Jonathan Swift's 'A Modest Proposal' if i could, i'd give you a prize, in all the time this has been shown or on display, nobody has ever noticed that little touch! you my friend are the first... take a bow!!!
