Aw, I'll try something new out this weekend, then, if I can find the inspiration :] I've been strangely uninspired all week, and it's starting to tick me off.

awesome. Those trees are sick! Great job. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thanks =] Those 'sick' trees took me an insane amount of time to make. Poor Laura (Pelick) had to listen to me whining about them on ICQ.

Count me among your legion of fans. You put out a book and I'll buy it. Immediately. And with extreme prejudice. I learn from you every time you post -- thanks for sharing your work! |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you. =]

Excellent! i saw this at deviant, and my jaw dropped back then.it is truly incredible.your art has hit a new level i think.despite it being character driven.you are narrating a much more dynamic story. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you :] I'm trying to expand with what I do. I want the characters to be the focus, but still bring more into the picture. I suspect I'll fall back on the focus of the character, when I draw a character more dear to me, however. We'll see what'll happen :] Again, thank you.

I remember once you said that "my backgrounds suck", well, those days are long gone. The textures and detail in this background are crazy. I mean, how do you cram so much detail into every little rock and tree? Do you use brushes to create an effect, or
*shudder*, do you manually install each and every detail *gulp*? I've looked at your work long enough to know that you probably created each and every little detail almost pixel by pixel , but it still stuns me. I thought you were awesome way back in your Elfwood days, but your work has improved dramatically since then. Amazing. I think it's great that you're coming out with a book, I really think it's going to make you world famous. I can't help but envy you. I think your going to be able to do what every artist dreams of, and that is, to work full time only at art for the rest of your life. Hard work, that's what got you there. I don't think I've ever seen a more driven artist than you. Sorry about the length and cornyness of this message, I just want everyone to know that I knew you before they make a movie about you. ^__^ |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you so much, Christopher. The leaves are mostly handpainted in photoshop, with a splash of leaves and textures created in Painter mingled into the mix. I love working with those two programs combined - photoshop feels so limited sometimes.
And, again, thank you - for all that you said. The book is not coming out, yet, I've just started to consider it, and I'm poking around for interest - which seems to be quite intent. I'll see what happens :]

i've seen this several times around the internet now, and it hasn't stopped amazing me. I really love this direction your work is taking - very fairy tale-ish, and if you do publish a book then I will be amongst the first in line to buy it. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you. I always love to try out new things - this time, it's going towards less-fantasy and more-fairytale, but I'm going to start painting more magical images in this style, too, sooner or later. It'll be great fun :]

I love how you use such subtle tones but can still attract the viewers eyes to the important parts of the painting. B-U-T-ful! |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you :] It's something I've tried the last few pictures quite consciously.

I always do a little happy-dance when I see a thumbnail of something new from you in the daily additions! You and Socar have such a knack for setting a mood with your colour pallettes! Your rendering is magical, and I agree with Mr Shephard that the background is terrific. I hope you do put that fairytale book together - I want one! :-) |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you very much :] Colours are my favourite thing.

Linda, I admit - this one IS truly amazing. I not only cant find any flaws, I see many good sides of this one - the execution, the story telling aspect.. great work! |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Wow, thank you :]

Dear GOD she's done it again. I think I might sit in a corner and meow. That is just sublime, and the trees in mist... I can even smell them, and the girl is captivating, and who is the figure in the background? Argh! You need to write stories for these!
Looking at the girl, she makes me think if Robert Smith had a pretty younger sister, she'd look like that. Or she'd *like* to. Sheesh, who wouldn't? |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you. And Robert Smith, yeah? I can almost see it now that you've pointed it out :]

Really stunning work !! your backgrounds are just fantastic and the way you tell a story in your work. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you :] Backgrounds are still relatively new for me. I really only enjoy painting forests though. Heheh.

Dark Faerie-Tales I've been a fan of your art for a while, since a friend of mine claimed some were made by her, for me. As far as I know she's ceased doing this.
After a while another friend of mine referred me here, to your Epilogue gallery, I've found your forums and some tutorials, and I've been getting a lot of inspiration from your work.
Since you're now showing a lot of interest in dark faerie-tales, I was wondering if you've ever heard of the author Neil Gaiman, who has written several dark fantasy novels and graphic novels including the Sandman series, Neverwhere, American Gods, and Coraline?
In fact, if you have the space and bandwidth, you might like to check out the audio version of his short story, "Snow, Glass, Apples." It's available free at http://www.scifi.com/set/playhouse/snowglassapples/ ... I've wanted to see your visual interpretation of that one for some time now. :)
In any case, keep doing what you do, and I'll keep looking up your work. You've got a great touch with the faerie-tale style already, btw. :) |

Thank you. I spent many hours working on those trees.

I have no other words for this except..perfect. Your work is always amazing and you never fail to shock me. The first thing that popped into my mind was Snow White for some reason.......I would *love* to see your version of an Alice In Wonderland theme...and for another note, I would buy that book as well! |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Yes, it is somewhat Snow White inspired - more from Hansel and Gretel. :] Dress is much inspired by snow white - I think that is where most get the association from. Thakn you kindly.

Cynthia Rudzis 2003-03-04 |
The background is luscious...I love the mossy, dark atmosphere. The central characters face and the petals glow against it. Save a book for me! :) |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
I will if I ever get around to doing it :) Many thank yous.

You know how people throw around the word "breathtaking" until it has no meaning? I only ask that in order to say: I looked at this and literally could not breathe. It's as beautiful as life. Thanks. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Aw *blushes* you flatter me :}

We've all commented on the rocks and leaves and so forth (which are great), but I have to say the dress is stunning and the movment of the figure too. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you :] I'm trying new things with the people in my works now.

Carrie Hall 2003-03-07 |
praise and a question I do love the background..very realistic, and stunning....I, overall like the feel of this piece very much!
Since I don't draw very many "dark" subjects, (which I plan to change that) I love it when someone can do it as well as you can.
I would like to know when you are going to have prints available?? I think a while ago in another comment page, you said you were trying to get things going.....and I was hoping soon we can get our grubby little hands on some of your work!
|
|
Sara Engen 2003-03-07 |
commissions Do you have a commissions page where you list prices or should I just e-mail you? |
|
Noa Eren 2003-03-12 |
I thought about Snow White and Hansel & Gretel before reading the comments ^-^ *is proud* I think the picture is a nice twist to the original tale, since Gretel was fairly stupid and annoying in it and it was always Hansel who thought ahead.... but I'm rambling ^^;
anyway, I always love the dresses and trees you draw... and I like this new gray look to your pics - it adds more depth, imho. and I only noticed the figure in the back when I looked at it for third time or so ^^; and for a moment I really stopped breathing. your pictures are always beautifully dark, but this one really scared me, once I took a deeper look at it. you just keep getting better and better ^-^ |
|
Bill Corbett 2003-03-20 |
Your techniques are amazing - but I'm not that keen on the subjects you paint. Can't have everything I guess? Do you have any tutorials? I'd dearly love to see how you approach something like this. |
|
A. K. ( Genevra ) Brown 2003-04-05 |
Absolutely lovely Linda, like so many others in your impressive collection. One thing I respect in your art is how often you manage to transcend our much-maligned digital medium to the point where the viewer may focus more on the content as opposed to the tools that created it. With this piece in particular, I'm especially impressed with your background setting - do you use photo references for your forest and landscapes? |
|
Pauline Hill 2003-04-13 |
still awesome Your stuff is great, but I'm feeling too lazy at the moment to really go into depth about why and everything... More, I just wanted to ask if the fairytale was Little Red Riding Hood... I can see it, 'cos doesn't she go to pick flowers or something when the big bad wolf comes for her?
Anyway, I'm just guessing and playing around a bit. The story thing sounds like a great idea. Something like a picture story book for adults? I think it could do really well.... hmm... Anyway, goo luck with your work :D |

Emily de Búrca 2003-06-04 |
I have to say that my favourite aspect of this picture is the shadowy figure in the left background. It really adds a touch of mystery to the picture, and makes you wonder about the story behind it.
As always, Jaw-dropping work! I hope I get to see more in the near future! |
|
Kosala Ubayasekara 2003-10-06 |
Good god! I am in awe of the staggering amount of detail you have in your pictures. This is just amazing, and I have been looking it for at least 15 mins now, and its still amazing ;) |

This is astonishing. If I ever get half this good with colours and composition I'll consider myself successful. Truly amazing. |
|
Maya Wheeling 2004-11-04 |
Mesmerizing... I love it. The atmosphere of the piece draws one in to the story... and the shadow of the pursuer captures the eye and holds it to build the tension. Masterful use of layout, color, and contrast. |
