Socar Myles 2003-04-17 |
Aw, how cute! Very nicely rendered, as well! I've got a question--did you do that on tinted paper? I notice a lot of your art has a tint to it, which looks like the paper coming through. (Don't worry, that's not a criticism--I love the effect!) |
| (James McPartlin) |
Thank you so much, Socar! yes, you are quite right, I use light coloured catridge paper, it's a bit hard and time consuming to work on at times, but sometimes the effort is worth it! much glad you like! thanks again!

Bill Corbett 2003-04-17 |
Blimey James, you just keep em coming!! It amazes me how you maintain a constant stream of work with such tight rendering. I must say that I think that your work just gets better and better :) I really like the underlying blue in the flesh tones and the details in the irises in this one. The expression on humpty's face is great. |
| (James McPartlin) |
Thanks, Bill! yeah, I think I'm constantly trying to improve on what went before, but the enjoyment of it all is really the main push for me!

James Browne 2003-04-17 |
This ROCKS! James, you're a genious! Hump is priceless & the idea of him being the size of a real egg is awesome! I'm not sure if this lady is just flirting with him or she's thinking about having him as a snack. He's too damn cute! I've been painting Humpty for years but this by far the best Humpty Dumpty I've ever seen. Can you ship him over seas to me so he can sit on my desk while I paint? I can build a little wall for him if he'd like. |
| (James McPartlin) |
Naw! it's ok James, she's a total vegan, and he'd be quite happy to visit as long as he could go by sea, as any sudden air pressure on a plane might cause problems! lol! thanks for your excellent comments!

Sean Lynch 2003-04-17 |
You know,I hope she's not thinking what her eyes seem to be saying-I mean she's not going to-eat him-is she?:D Great work James, her features are very well done and humpty is a crack-up(exuse the pun, could not resist)I hope I did'nt curse you when I requested Little Red Riding Hood, but hey, look at all the free inspiration.Great illustration James! |
| (James McPartlin) |
You are quite right, Sean! free inspiration sure saves brain power! lol! as always your words are much appreciated! thanks!

Hehe, this is great James :)! I love the closeup shot and the interesting perspective. Humpty Dumpty is adorable. Lovely use of muted colors too. This is definatley one of my favourites of yours. |
| (James McPartlin) |
Glad you liked the perspective of this one, Harmony! I wanted it to be a sort of "in your face" close up effect! thanks for dropping by!
|
|
Denny Ho 2003-04-21 |
wow! your work gets better and better! i love the smooth tonal shading and that eye is really good! Do you use a colorless blender? Good job! |
| (James McPartlin) |
Thank you for your kind input, Denny! I don't use a tonal blender ( to be honest I'm not quite sure what that is!), it's purely a matter of cross-hatch shading a few layers very finely!
|
|
Nell McKellar 2003-04-24 |

|
Christine M. Griffin 2003-04-24 |
Oh, this is just precious! So charming..what color paper do you use? |
| (James McPartlin) |
Thanks so much, Christine! I use many different colours of paper, mainly light grey, but for this one I used a navy blue which gave me some interesting tones coming through my finnished colour pencil work

Tiziano Baracchi 2003-09-14 |
My compliments ...on your great skill with colored pencils, I love the eyes on this one. And also the sligtly disturbing athmosphere you gave to many of your 'fairy tales' works; if you are familiar with RPGs, some of them make my think 'Fairy tale meets Ravenloft'. Great works! |
| (James McPartlin) |
I do like to put a slightly original slant into those old stories, Tiziano! thanks for the kind words!
|
|
Stephanie Ruple 2004-02-26 |
how wonderful! i have seen this drawing before on elfwood, i am always amazed by the quality and your talent, the details and realism is just incredible. the reflexion in her eyes and the shape of her lips...she looks almost familiar to me! |
| (James McPartlin) |
Funny that! after doing this one you wouldn't believe the number of people I've noticed who resemble her, I guess it's cause she has a kinda "girl next door" prettiness rather than a super model beauty! thank you for the lovely comments, Stephanie!

|
Paul Butvila 2004-08-28 |

Oooh An egg sized humpty? I've never seen that before. Brilliant! Love the girl's face too - I really must learn how to get eyes in proportion like that on such a tricky angle... |
| (James McPartlin) |
Thank you, Amanda, can't wait to see more of your lovely work posted here!
|
|
Mia Bailey Hopper 2005-11-21 |

|
Amanda Penrose 2006-03-06 |
Cuuuute! I never thought of humpty as being egg sized before! I guess because he's usually drawn kind-of human sized. I love this new perspective :-) |
| (James McPartlin) |
Thank you so much, Amanda, I'm so glad you like the idea!
