you just keep getting more and more fantastic the sheen... perfectly accentuates and enhances the contours and form... It's perfect. I'm always amazed by your talent. I might sound like I'm gushing, but it's really just stating fact |

It's nice to hear that from someone like you Min, because I can return the praise right away. :)

Das Bild ist einfach supergut. OK, überrascht eigentlich niemanden bei dir.
Irgedwas daran erinnert mich an ein bestimmtes Brom Bild - aber vielleicht bin ich auch einfach nur beeindruckt.. |
| ( igino) |
Ja stimmt ... erinnert mich selbst etwas an Broms Artwork. Mit dem kleinen Unterschied vielleicht das er bessere Farbkombinationen verwendet.

Excellent painting Igino, great character. Yes the 'Darth Maul' influence can be seen, but this is exceptionaly well rendered, perfect anatomy and skillful control of lighting. I'm impressed. |

Thanks Mark!

Gary Allen 2001-09-05 |
Just... WOW Just an awesome piece, Igino. As a writer, rather than an artist - let me say this wonderful piece definitely fired the imagination. Terrific stuff! |

My God! ... although, I am not surprised about anything by you, igino, any more!
I just wonder, how long it takes you to finish such a masterpiece.
I am overwhelmed. |
| ( igino) |
Hmm difficult question ... I hardly ever work at one painting in a row. But I guess it was about five or six solid days of work.

Oh my gawd...it`s been here for four (!!) days and I didn`t notice until now, shame upon me. Yes he does look like Darth maul, just twice as evil and with a more oriental look, guess it`s for the earrings and the colorful body paint. Aren`t two swords cooler than one, surely Musashi would agree here too. Question: Why are your male characters mostly bald..? Just asked myself if you lost all your hair yourself (??), nothing unusual at an age of 1600 years one must admit. Or you`re simply too lazy to paint hair...I mean, those oil paintings surely take forever even without characters wearing fancy haircuts isn`t it. Shar doesn`t quite have the same depth as other characters you`ve painted so far, maybe it`s because the backlights aren`t as radical. Nevertheless he looks very lifelike due to your excellent textures and near to perfect anatomy. One wouldn`t think so, but I`d dare say that frontal perspectives are among the most difficult poses in terms of not letting something appear stiff. You succeeded totally in that area, the legs are relaxed and his grip is tight, well done. I`m not very content with the background though, I love the concept and it sets off the character very well, but the sheen is too strong and thus the background is generally too bright to create a creepy atmosphere, I miss some moodiness here, something I know you`re definitely capable of. I would have enjoyed if the light sheen was only around Shar and not filling the entire painting, rather leaving a dark border around the image, guess that could have created even more moodiness. But in the end this is a extremely skillful and exciting character portrait! |
| ( igino) |
First, thanks for this novel-like comment Adrian! I definitely think two swords are cooler than one! Especially if you can put them together, like Shar's. Regarding the bald-thing, I really don't know. Actually I used to love drawing bald characters, but for some odd reason I HAVE to do them now. It seems everyone whants me to paint bald people. So here they are! My gallery is full of them, huh? :) And yes, I really thought about shaving my head. How did you know??
I totally agree that frontal perspectives are the most difficult ones. It looks boring very easily. I also agree on the background and the moodiness. I know that I have to work in this area much more. Thanks for your comment Adrian!

WOW!!

Perfection This is probably one of the best single character portraits I have seen [the other being a work by Jean-Pierre Targete] in this particular genre. Allow me to explain ( grin ): 1) The pose is fantastic. The geometric balance his stance creates with the background surely ranks up there with the great classical art for its balance, rhythm and composition. 2) The color choices, so seamlessly melded together, are exceedingly pleasing to the eye. 3) The acute attention to detail [tattooes, veins, textures of the leather and musculature] is perfection. 4] The light and fogginess seems to draw the eye even more so to the character, which [I think] is another example of your skill with the medium. 5) I've seen just about every stitch of Star Wars-based artwork and this ranks alongside if not surpassing some of the great Star Wars illustrators, such as Ralph McQuarrie. [Top THAT Adrian! :)] |
| ( igino) |
wow ...*points at the comment* She compares me with J.P. Targente!! :D But to be honest, I'm not that happy with the colors at all. May be it's a little bit to colorful ... I don't know. As for Star Wars: Ralph McQuarrie is an awesome painter and concept artist! His works have always been a great source of inspiration for me. Thanks for your charming commment, Elizabeth!
