Wonderful! Seriously, a wonderful work! This is better than some of the works that end up in Tolkien books you see in the bookstores. Very nice! |

thanks eric, pretty nice of u to say, considering that most artists who have done tolkein at one stage or another are some of my biggest heros

The atmosphere here reminds me of gloomy old adventure games like Monkey Island or Simon the Sorcerer, especially the hobbit hole entrance is extra-gloomy...you would make a really great background artist for computer games. Your picture is full of leisure, but yet there is adventure lying in the air. You succeeded in not letting it look boring, even without action...a difficult task! Once again it`s the detail which forces your eyes to explore this artwork, just look at all those tiny wines around the white fence, damn I need to see a highres version of this one, can`t you upload one to your geocities page maybe?! As always, your characters look pretty awkward, stiff and anatomically a little bit disastrous (yeah I know you don`t use references, and yeah I know Vincent van Gogh didn`t pay attention to perspective and all but his stuff sells for millions...) |

i dont think my anatomy is great but i woudlnt call it disatrouse, ill go look at ur gallery to see if u can teach me anything about anatomy. what does not kill us only makes us stronger.

to be disastrous or not to be :) Hey Chris I didn`t say disastrous, I said 'a little bit disastrous', just like I am a little bit polemic (just a tiny little bit though :P) I`d be very glad if you came over to my gallery to critisize (raises my page stats too as a nice side effect), and hell of course my anatomy isn`t any better (it`s even WAY WORSE than yours which is just a little bit disastrous...) One doesn`t have to be better than someone to be able or allowed to critisize him or her, and since you`re an honest guy yourself I think you can take criticism isn`t it? Of course 'disastrous' is a relative term: Compared to me you are a true master in anatomy, compared to Michelangelo your anatomy is disastrous. And since it`s Michelangelo and not me who sets the standards, was my judgement so very wrong? ;-) |
| (christiaan iken) |
no, i like critisism, infact i went back and because of ufixed up rivendell, as much as is possible, and also fixed up swamp battle, the hands of the man, and as i said, what does not kill us makes us stronger. that means that if u can listen to critism and learn from it it will make u a beter artist. ive gone back to using a certain amount of photoreference now, ie. doing a few sketches, than photographing something simliear with a digi camera and seeing if everything makes sense. just the word disasterouse i found abit offensive, but be assured all good artists want to get beter and that doesnt happen without a kick up the backside, and u serve as a good boot alot of the times.

Christian, I'm speechless. How do you keep up this relentless pace? Painting after painting, all excellent quality and so detailed too! You must have the stamina of a marathon runner. I can't help but be impressed by both the volume and the quality of your work. Amazing, keep on keepin on mate. |

I saw the movie 2 days ago, and I must say that when I saw all your LotR pics I recognised it directly with out even see the name or the comments you wrote to it. They are all wonderful masterpieces and you have captured the both the spirit and the look exactly. As I said before: YouÂ’re proÂ… |
