Wow, it's wonderfuly done and I must say a pretty damn good reason for short hair. |

Yes, this scene really made me rethink my Maedhros design. Let's see where it takes me. :)

Real watercolor? As in actual COLOR? Wow, big step you're taking :P |

The final frontier!! :D

Beautiful watercolour, Jenny! love all those subtle tones, nicely structured image! |
| (Jenny Dolfen) |
Actually, the tones were a lot less subtle before I scanned it. I think I remember now why I coloured all my last watercolours digitally from the start!

Wow! Wow! I just love all your works based on The Silmarillion. It's a great book :)
You know, you should've worked with Turbine on creating concept art for their new MMORPG 'Middle-Earth Online'.
The current concept art of the elves is....rather bad I'd say.
Please continue doing more of these great works! :)
(some paintings with Turin in it would really be something!) |
| (Jenny Dolfen) |
Maybe later! :)

My goodness, that is.... emotional!
I really love all your paintings. You seem to be I think the only artist I know who managed to capture the "elfishness" of elvish faces.
But for the hair - he DOES have short hair in the Valinor picture with Finrod going to jump, so certainly before this one chronogically... |
| (Jenny Dolfen) |
Well--this was a bit of a spoof for people who needed an explanation why my Maedhros has short hair. He's always had it for me, so I always drew him like that. Maybe I'll draw him with long hair from now on, prior to his captivity... dunno yet. ^^
A spoof in 16x12 inches. Yeah, right. XD

Like all of your Silmarillion art this is amazing.
Now is there any chance of more of Maedhros while he still has his long hair...? :) |
| (Jenny Dolfen) |
We'll see! (I don't know myself, yet)

Lucy again. I actually like him better with short hair. The angle of his head is odd here. And also the picture sort of contradicts ur Fëanorean family pic. As in that pic u drew him with short hair but this pic which is of a later event he has long hair so if this was the first time it was cut it shouldn't be short back then. Oh well. Draw Finwë!!!!!!! Lol pretty please Ms Dolfen if u'd be so kind! |
| (Jenny Dolfen) |
Maybe later...

Just to give orcs a rare compliment, yours are some of the most orc-like and scary I've seen. I love the one at the front with the fangs and dreadlocks.
Oh, and Maedhros is nice too. Just didn't want to give pretty-boy all the praise. :) Great pic, as usual. |
| (Jenny Dolfen) |
I wanted some really bad ugliness to set off Maedhros. Seems it worked. :)

Heh...your scanner and my scanner must've been seperated at birth. I have the same issues....fabulous piece, nonetheless! |

lol! Separated at birth... *sniggers*

Nice to have an explanation about the short hair...but I'd think he'd let it grow again...and hasn't he that hair cut even in Valinor ?
Oh, nevermind, this is a beautiful piece of art, and it is all that matters... |
| (Jenny Dolfen) |
This was just a spoof, really, and it doesn't fit in with my other pics. :)

So the orcs like his hair as much as I do, then? *grin*
Poor, poor Maedhros. The unfortunate child has gone through so much . . . now he has to lose his beautiful hair? |

Jenny O Jenny, where have you gone? Not that you owe art to us, but I miss the updates very much. Of course, I know that real life does the "step-in-and-take-over" thing very well.....but I hope you have the time to do some new pieces soon! |
| (Jenny Dolfen) |
Real life really got in the way with a vengeance, and it's as real as it gets: I'm pregnant! :D I'm not feeling very well, and have almost no time to draw. But the holidays are almost here, so I hope I can get something done then!

First of all, I love your pics!! I discovered "Nirnaeth Arnoediad" at some page I can't remember and then sought more from you! So this is why I ended up here :) The way you portray Maedhros captures me, but one question has been bothering me from the beginnig: why does he have red hair?? I can't find the page in the Silmarillion where he is described...

| (Jenny Dolfen) |
It's not said int he Silmarillion, but in Tolkien's later/earlier writings, collected by his son Christopher in the "History of Middle Earth" series. There it says that Maedhros had reddish hair, as did Amrod and Amras.

I love it! Absolutely love it! You have amazing skill with watercolors. I'm glad I came across your works, for I love your style, and especially your LotR and Silmarillion paintings. THose books are some of my favorites! Well done. ~Celebriel |

I found this gallery through tolkeinonline (Your Nirnaeth Arnoediad is the second-highest rated peice of artwork there, with good reason, though you probably knew that). Each and every one of these are utterly amazing. Your portrayl of the Elves -particulary Maedhros- is almost identical to the way I've always pictured them, and I especially like the Orcs in this one -they're some of the most convincing I've seen.
Finally: Congratulations!! :D |

suzanne Positively riveting.
You bring terror and
pain in your work
so convincingly.
I never tire of
viewing your
interpretations
of scenes.

Yet again another fantastic piece and interpretation of one of my favourite parts of the study. Wish my art was as good as yours- I can't even draw people. |
