I think the thing about a tablet is that it's so freeing. You can make sweeping lines, have more control, curves look better, and your wrist doesn't ache at the end of the drawing session. I have a 6X8 Wacom, which I find a perfect size for me, since I'm all about tight, small details (I've given up on being a loose, painterly artist), but I need to work at a decent DPI size to get everything detailed enough. That size fits very nicely on my lap, and in front of my keyboard, isn't too small or too big. It does take some getting used to, but if you are already coloring digitally with a mouse, you'll fall right in. And it feels very natural to use it like you were coloring with colored pencils. The only other piece of general advice I have is that when you use a tablet, remember that you can use a very light touch, and adjust the pressure sensitivity. Light touch seems to work better.
