Uwe, GREAT work - you are fast now - it seems you cant get off the comp... ;) good for us |
| (Uwe Jarling) |
Hi Rita :-) – Naaaaa I’m not fast – I have just laying around tons of unfinished stuff on my harddrive – so I thought I should complete the one or other of them, before there is to much commission work again, and I don’t have time to complete my free pieces ;-)
Thanks for stopping by my friend :-)

Great! Yes Uwe, I remember them from the other painting. I love the drama and great sense of action and movement here, and your color work is perfect. A very powerful painting. Well done! :) |

thanks Scott - it always makes me happy to hear from you my friend!

It is obvious from your work that you live, eat , and breathe art Uwe. Art is truly in your soul, and your dedication to the craft is an inspiration to all of us. *bows* |
| (Uwe Jarling) |
Hi Christopher, thanks for your very kind and touching words. And yes I LOVE ART – I love to create art and I love to see art. And know, if I am really able to inspire someone – be sure you all are very, very inspiring to me – it is just wonderful to browse through the epi galleries, so much to see, so much inspiration, so much talent – what a wonderful place – I whish I would have found this place earlier.
So I have to bow my head in front of you all, which are so kind and so helpful – thanks!

Wonderful work again, Uwe, this has a really grand scale to it and the brush-strokes are reminiscent of oil painting. It could almost be a film poster. |
| (Uwe Jarling) |
Thanks Simon you know your comments and very helpful, constructive critiques are always more than welcome – thanks my friend for all your support!

Very powerful as always, Uwe. I like how you've used the receding architecture to add a lot of depth. Also, it looks very painted and not digital! |
| (Uwe Jarling) |
Thanks Patrick you are most welcome – and hey, good luck with your freelance adventure!!!

Really great work Uwe - I'm quite familar with the first picture of the four horsemen in your gallery with the survivors of the apocalypse looking back at the nuclear mushroom cloud with the horsemen appearing out of it. I think its a fantastic image, this one has much more of a religious feeling to it and is a completely different handling of the subject, it still carries the same weight for me in its meaning. As always excellent work my friend. |
| (Uwe Jarling) |
Thanks Matthew – this one, the more religious, was original idea of this piece – and as said this also exists half finished as an oil painting – so when the band came to me discussing the cover art for their album, they saw the oil piece standing in my workroom and asked if they could have those horsemen included in the cover art. And as it is just a free work, I said yes (this way the half cover was finished before I really started – lol -)
Glad you like this one tooÂ…

By far your best piece for me now. you have found a way to harmonize your colour palette and make it more subtle. You've worked very hard on that i see. It's great work Uwe. Can we have a little explanation of your process? it seems slightly different now. |
| (Uwe Jarling) |
Hey thanks Marley – glad you like this piece.
Well about the process – I am not sure if I am good enough that anyone would be interested in a tutorial – but I can take some screens of one of my upcoming pieces and create a little step by step tutorial, and post it on my website – so you (and everyone else who is interested) could see how I do a piece from the very first rough sketch to the finished work.
About the slightly different look in my pieces now – well I just try to learn, with every piece a little more, and I had some great advice lately from some of the epi folks and not at least I had the chance to e-mail back and forth with Mr. Todd Lockwood who give me some great advice and opened my eyes (man, he did a redline over one of my works and improved it in 5 minutes a thousand percent!!!) – and if I know now one thing, than that I know nothing about art – I have to learn sooooo much, and it is so much fun to do so!
Thanks so much for your comment my friend, as soon as I have that tutorial done IÂ’ll let you knowÂ….

You Got Todd Lockwood to do a paintover o;O*. Wow thats great uwe. and thanks man a tut would be nice :D. Compared to you Uwe (lol "You Uwe", Sorry i have a silly sense of humour)). I know nothing :p. |
| (Uwe Jarling) |
:-) Hi Marley – so I’m looking forward to do such a little tut ;-) –
Another thing I would love to know since a long time – How the Hell do you guys pronounce my name – I bet it sounds funny in English :-))
And about Todd, well that’s a long story – but to make it short – I have a good (online) friend from another community – and she knows him personally and has contact to him – so I just asked here not too long ago, if she could be so kind and introduce me to him someday (I never would have dared me to write him myself) ;-) – what shall I say, five minutes later I got an e-mail from Todd (as I remember right I did a happy rain dance as I got the mail). Never thought things like that could happen – but the Internet made it possible, isn’t it wonderful!
Meanwhile I meet a lot of my idols personal at conventions or on the Internet, one wouldn’t believe how kind and helpful those “Big ones” are!

in special I like the texture in this piece, it has a somewhat "rough and massive" feeling to it- I first thought you went back to oil paintings, hopefully you´ll finish the oil one sometimes-I would love to look at both then.
I remember the horsemen- and I must say I like both versions but this a little bit more- might be because of the subjekt- I really like this part of the book (and I recentely watched "constantine" *g*)
I also look forward for your tutorial or even your process pictures- as a beginner and fan I´m sure I can learn alot from you - dont let me die stupid ;)
umh and.. aeh.. WHO is Todd Lockwood? |
