As it seems I`m the only one who`s not from Thailand...weird thing. Now this is one way to react to criticism in a cool way, Linda! It`s a LOT more ready witted than simply grumbling and lamenting, I`m reliefed to see you still got some humor left despite all the oh-so terrible crits you receive. And yes, this picture isn`t ridiculous at all, it`s great fun, dashing and crafty, magnificent! Ok can`t say I like his outfit because that wouldn`t be honest (but can`t say I don`t like it either, or the first interpretation will certainly be that it is my secret desire to dress myself in girly clothes, walking around like a freaky drag queen... :D) I don`t know whether this is defiance, indifference or simulated pride on his face, but his expression is simply marvellous! You really can`t tell for sure what he feels like, well reading the title I assume it`s supposed to be indifference. Is indifference what you want to feel like as well, considering the negative part of feedback? I think indifference is as pain killing as it is killing delight, though. But back to your picture now, or it might sound like I presumed to know you which is not so, of course. One great thing about art is that it offers such a variety of possible interpretations, and yet the truth remains the artist`s personal business, the artist`s secret. I know you don`t like comments when they become personal or critisize anything else than technical issues. But being restricive with comments in such a wonderful community is not the right way, in my humble opinion. Doing humorous pictures like this is far cooler. By the way, I LOVE the spider on the top left, does it have a special meaning? Does it weave the web of illusion as in Hindu and Buddhist myth, or does it weave the web of fate as in American Indian myth, connecting the past and the future? Or is the spider just there to scare off those commentors who happen to be arachnophobic, to give the picture (at least) a little threat element? Either way, a web is a thing of beauty to be honored, so no matter what you draw Linda, everyone has to see the beauty in your works. I think yoo could paint little slimy green aliens with buttheads and rat tails (no offense, Socar) and it would be beautiful nevertheless. After all, beauty is the second name of your style as I`m sure many people would agree with, most of all your religious Im-ho-tep fans. I`m getting tired of smoothness in general though, I niggle around with pencils or pens to get shadings smoother and smother, but the smoother things get the more boring they eventually become. There`s nothing wrong in letting certain areas of a picture look perfectly smooth as this has great effect, but if the entire picture is smoothed out and every shade is blended into the other until there are no transitions, no strokes to be seen any longer, then things start to look flat and boring. And what is even worse, there is no individuality in smoothness either, anyone who has some bits of talent can achieve perfect smoothness, it`s just a matter of time and technique. Time is not more than a quantitative effort, and technique can be learned with time. One reason why I say this is because too many of my own pics are smoothed to boredom as well, not in the exact same way of course but I guess we got a similar problem, and so do many many others. I don`t expect you to change anything, after all it`s only a problem if one realized it as a problem. And yes, smoothness belongs to your style I know. Just wanted to share some theories of cognition, who knows maybe someone can make profit from them, if not that`s ok as well. After all, the most wonderful thing about comments is that they don`t need to meet the efficiency of court sentences. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
This is a really long, intricate comment. Thank you for that - you have very many interesting thoughts. Thank you for the compliment, too, as well as the criticism.
On the matter of the smoothness - I know there are many people who agree with you. That brush strokes are more interesting in an image. To some extent I agree, too. Depending on the image, of course ;] I think itÂ’s very much a matter of taste, though. I like looking at smooth images rather than those with heavy brush strokes. I donÂ’t know why - itÂ’s just my taste. They appeal to me, you know? If itÂ’s one thing IÂ’ve learned from having drawn pictures for so long, it is to draw what I like. What my heart wants to draw. Right now, my heart wants my work to look like this. Perhaps, eventually, it will develop in another direction but I wonÂ’t force it. What fascinates me with pictures are the colours, the flow, the little details - much more than what brushes have been used. Like I said, maybe that will change, one day, but not yet =] I donÂ’t really see it as a problem. Just as a difference of taste =)

Well linda, as u nerved me and i dont want to talk with u, just tell enayla that its my favorite pic from her.

nb: try not use too much filters next time;) |

Hey Linda! Thankee indeed for the gift-- I have a friend who will probably appreciate this lots. :) And though not all the pretty boys appeal to me, your artwork still impresses me everytime. You've certainly developed your vision of androgyny over the last year. One small comment though-- I like the placement of the spider, but it seems a bit pasted on. You have such depth in your picture, and suddenly the spider's hanging on a rather alien 'border' (the edge of the pic). I wonder if that made sense at all... in any case, gorgeous as always. :D I love those wings. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Hmm... you might actually be absolutely right about the spider. I'll see what I can do about that, later. I guess I was aiming for some kind of effect, but if it didn't work, I'll try to change it when I have the time. Thank you, for both crits and compliments =)

Hell Yea! You tell those anti supporters Linda! This picture, like the rest, is great. In a way, it has a Rocky Horror flare to it. Keep the great work going. |

Lots of people have commented on the Rocky Horror factor =] I'm glad. Thank you very much =D

Rats! Delete the previous non-post, will you? I was so excited I hit return. Anyway, Linda. Bravo to you! As a staunch admirer for many years, and having watched you evolve, improve, excel in your art, I am so beside myself with him. He's beautiful - as he deserves to be, as he should be. Beautiful men are soooo sexy! And he's the best of what you already share. Any anti-supporter just doesn't get it. This is your style, your heart and soul and we should all be grateful that you are willing to even SHOW us your work, let alone share your feelings about it. No one else has this incredible style or talent - no one! And those who come close? The comments are usually, "Oh, this reminds me of Linda's work." So, to those who don't appreciate art in this style, it's just like changing the channel on the telly when you don't like a show. Just go on to what you do like. Linda won't stop. We won't let her! Thanks, Linda. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
*smiles and purrs* Aww, now you made me smile and everything. *hugs*

Nick Graves 2002-02-17 |
Daaaaum...I have to say I've admired all the art you have put up in the past and occasionally gawked and wiped the drool from my lips from time to time as well...But this is just amazing. I don't know if it was simply the raw battered emotion coming out of you when you did it or...heh...my own sick fascination with androgyny, but I would rank this as your absolute best by far. It has replaced my own work as my desk top image and... I'm sneaking it onto my husbands comp as well... Rock on girl..if your Wacom ever breaks give me a holler. |
|
Daniel Beswick 2002-02-17 |
=) Teehee. Still love it.
*snickers* And it's still the corset/loincloth/dress/whatever the heck that thing is that does it for me, too. ;)
And the gloves, of course... and the WINGS! I always love the slightly stylized way you do wings, but these in particular are great. They look so... cuddly! =D
Heh. And not to forget the boy, himself. ;]
Hmmm. I want a black grassed gardern like that when I grow up. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
*giggles* Heheh, I'd like a garden like that, too. Thankee, Dan =]
|
|
Lipták László 2002-02-17 |
Opinion I saw the bigger version. I like the wings, they are very cool... They are the best parts of this picture. The spider is a little strange. I think it is cool too, but seems like a spider what made without references (hmmm:), I think you made it spontaneous, only with your fantasy (and I respect this). Perhaps this is the difference between the parts of your pic. The body and the face seem like if they'd be PS colorized (modified) photos, because they are very detailed and realistic, but the spontaneous parts like the spider and some parts of the hair are more flatted and less detailed. Anyway I like global effect, but I coudn't found any exceptional feature (except the wings)... Sorry it was only a opinion. People are different. I respect your secret:) technic Linda, but perhaps you should make something different. I'd be happy if I could see anything else from you, something what only comes from your fantasy. Good luck to it... |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thanks for the crits, Liptak. The only two things referenced in this picture are actually the spider, funnily enough, and part of his chest - because I couldn't place the nipples right for some reason ;] I see what you mean, though. I wanted the spider to look dreamlike, and I guess I made it less realistic than the rest.

Lindsey Redwine 2002-02-17 |
sigh... *giggles* He's kawaii! Katelekai did you say? *purrs* I almost died of shock when I saw this! Not cause the guy *purrs again* THE LEATHER!!! it looks so real...*pets the leather* I'm definatly gonna try and sew that ;) awww... I wanted to know what kind of boots he's wearing :( OH! the flames? (flames-hate mail)You put them in one BIG pile, and make smores with 'em ^^ |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Leather is SO difficult to draw *___* Well, at least I think so, I bet there are tons of people out there who can do it without any effort at all. *gnashes teeth jealously*. He's wearing knee high, high heeled, boots of black leather. Laced on the sides =] Thankee.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! The corset! **literally jumped up and started dancing around on the seat** Absolutely beautiful, absolutely sexy! The relative face shape and hair..the expression on his face reminds me a lot of Mana from a japanese rock band called Malice Mizer. Wow..the similarties of them both is actually amazing. And I just love the torso. I love the way you can almost see the light shading of his ribs coming out. And the gloves...VERY nice. And the transparent spider hanging down is absolutely amazing. I didn't notice it at first. Though the spider is a bit random. I love the wings...fluffy, dark, rising out from behind him...You know, I think this is my favorite of your works. And I think I just might use this picture for roleplaying. **chuckles** Or suggest it for a friend of mine. **shrugs** There's actually a huge copyright discussion over uses of pictures in the place I roleplay. And it'll be nice to use a picture that the artist blatently stated that you could use it for roleplaying purposes. (your name has come up several times **soft chuckle** few pictures taken down, few pictures ignored, dunno) And now I'm laughing hard at the comments about the similaries that others noticed between jrock/visual kei and your picture. Awesome! |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Well, glad you like it =]
|
|
Yileen . 2002-02-17 |
**blinks and gawks** I just realised that this picture is perfect for my friend's character. Especially with that spider! The spider just matches up with my character. And it's just perfect! O-O And on another note. Someone remind me to ALWAYS turn my contrast up when I'm viewing a picture! I couldn't see the bottom part of the background. And now the spider doesn't look transparent at all. And thank you for the enlarged picture. Now that I can see all the details you put in it. It's just--Wow. The buckles on the corset...Buckles. **DROOLS** And the wings are even more stunning when enlarged and with the contrast of my computer turned up. One thing I noticed though(if you're looking at the enlarged picture)..the choker that he's wearing, near the top it almost blends into the skin..perhaps a bit of shadowing there? Cause it almosts looks like it's melting into his skin. ^^;; |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
You know, I think you're right about the choker. I'll see what I can do about that when I have the time to =)
|
|
Jessica Peffer 2002-02-18 |
Yes, this is definately fitting of Rocky Horror! I want his outfit >:) Never stop drawing. Granted I want you to keep drawing for the selfish reason that I enjoy looking at your lovely gallery once a week... but I hope that you enjoy it too ;) |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Oh, I love drawing =] I still would even if nobody but me ever saw the pictures =) I promise I won't ever stop.

Maura Meng 2002-02-18 |
Hehe, cool. It reminds me of visual kei, in perticular, Toshiya of Dir en Grey. I have a strange fasination (I think it's amusing too) in cross dressing and stuff, brobably because it's not mainstream. Very cool picture. I love the colours and texture. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you ^___^

Daniel Landerman 2002-02-18 |
pretty people Heh heh... you keep posting the pretty boys, and I'll keep posting the pretty girls. Wonderful use of color in this one. The mood is fantastic! And the bodice... corsett... thing... is really well done. I also love the little white highlights you added throughout the picture. Props to you! ;) |

Thanks =]

Heya babe Linda....is this Brom inspired? you said you would love to talk to him...send him up an e-mail and tell him it's fan art mauah...he will love it I promise.I love it ;)
If its not Brom inspired well....it reminds me of one of his pieces.
Keep up the good work babe |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Heheh, thank you! Someone finally actually saw the Brom inspiration!! (I've mentioned it several times but no one seems to be able to see the connection. Hmph.) I'm glad you like it =]

|
Robin Blakeley 2002-02-20 |
Well, I didn't mean to say that I didn't like it - actually, I think it's got great potential - if the head and body matched to my eyes.
One little tip I was given that may or may not be welcome advice: In regards to facial features, a femal face's brow bone is a rounded curve while a male's brow bone is more squared off. Even if they are 'pretty'. Take a look at your other works, I think you may see what I mean.
|
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Yes, you are probably right - the brow of a human male is more square than that of a female. But I can honestly not remember last time I painted an actual human male =] I can understand your criticism - and appreciate it - but the whole point of this is that I'm not actually interested in making my males more masculine. Not by making their brows more square, by making their shoulders wider, or by making their jaws more accentuated. You see? Laws of anatomy that apply to us humans do not necessarily apply to a fantastic character =] He can fly with those wings, you know, though gravity shouldn't really allow him to =) I'm pretty sure he can get away with having a feminine face, too =)
|
|
Robin Blakeley 2002-02-20 |
Then again, maybe I'm just guilty of taking it way too seriously, eh? :D |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Heheh =]
|
|
Robin Blakeley 2002-02-19 |
I support your effort to push the limits for what's considered male vs. female, but how is that proven by sticking an obviously female head onto a male body - they aren't even in proper proportion to each other. What makes every one of your male figures plainly male (no matter how 'pretty' they are) is that their bodies are built as men. Your female characters are the same. Male and female skeletons are not the same, so I would have to say that this experiment is a failure to that point. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
You really got me all wrong. This is not an experiment of that kind, not at all. Sorry to hear you don't like it - but tastes differ =]
|
|
min Rho 2002-02-21 |
Ah, those annoying critics I cannot fathom negative criticism to your work. I just can't. And I do admire your defiance and humor! It turns out much more can be learned from you than mere technique. *Goma!*
|
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Well, I can understand crits =] We all make mistakes, and I know most of my pictures are full of them. There's a bit of a difference between criticising, and trying to force someone to start drawing something they don't want to draw, though =) Thanks Min, it means a lot coming from a talented artist like you =)
|
|
Lori Krell 2002-02-21 |
Brom must be drooling... HE is gorgeous! Let the others rant and rant... The rest of will just go get a bucket for the drool. Awesome work! The cast off look by the figure towards the spider made me chuckle...kept picturing it as a rebuffing look away from the critics staring and gaping at the screen. It says, "Go ahead and comment. I will still be beautiful, and you will still keep looking." ;) |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
*grins* I worked a lot on the look on his face - glad to hear it's appreciated ;] Thankee =)
|
|
Angela Sasser 2002-02-21 |
Hubba LOL okay..I think it's pretty hot sexy! I like the outfit..it's devilishly sexy. Very nice details in the sheen of the sleeves and the corset. I absolutely love your gothy pics! Nice transclucence with the spider too..gives it a very dreamlike effect. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
*giggle* glad you like it. Thanks.
|

Camille Kuo 2002-02-21 |
a beatiful..man Marilyn Manson...my god, he is more ugly then this picture (just a joke)>
May I ask you a question? Which paint brush that you usually use to draw?
Keep up your awesome and special style!! It is so much different than artists that I've seen. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
I usually use a hard edged airbrush in adobe photoshop, in combination with the smudge tool =) Thank you.
|
|
Linda Bergkvist 2002-02-22 |
Mff, something odd going on, here *__* I swear, I'm not deleting comments - but the comments are moving around very strangely. They're all still here but VERY jumbled. Let's see where this ends up - in the middle, the end, or the top? |
|
Christine "blackwidow" Landrie 2002-02-22 |
It always amuzes me when people think that males or females have to look a certain way in fantasy art. I've always loved your works, and most of the time when I thought I had something to say some one allready has said it. Has some one actually sent those results to you? yuck. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Yes, it kind of amuses me as well =] Glad someone agrees with me! Thank you =)
And, yes, I received a good number of very wicked emails every week before this picture. It seems to have slowed them down ;]

Harold Frazier 2002-02-23 |
Woa...this is exactly the type of "dark/surreal" look I've been trying to get into my chars. it's an awesome peice. O.O;; |

Thankee ^________^

Shauna Mulligan 2002-02-25 |
Oh my... Linda,
I have your epilogue account bookmarked on my webpage.
What can I say. Some people can't seem to grasp the concept of the ethereal quality that all manner of Fae possess. You've captured it beautifully.
The fae are designed to appeal to the child like nature in us all, by assuming a shape that is pleasing and relatively 'safe' to both sexes, though underneath they can be truly spiteful creatures.
You've done a wonderful job capturing this essence Linda, you really have.
I see nothing wrong with this picture, aside from something off with parts of the anatomy (Shoulders look a shade too rounded and the right (that's my right) arm looks too thin), but other than that, the work is beautiful.
I wouldn't want to do anything with it, not even remove the spider.
Bravo....and encore. :-)
~Shauna
(AKA: Kaylin) |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
About the fae, I think you're absolutely right =) Thank you. (and your crits are very valid, too.... I'm not sure yet if I will change anything in this image, though)
|

Sandra Maria Hirschmann 2002-02-26 |
wow, everyone seems to write real essays here. But all I can say is: ROFL!! It's great. (and like others mentioned before: it could really be a member of a J-pop group *g*) |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
*grins* glad it brought a smile to your lips ;] That was the main intent =)
|
|
Min-Sook Park 2002-02-26 |
^.^ eep! I'd say it could make a japanese version of transvestite from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Man, I love that musical ^-^.
This, I will say, is my vision of great male beauty. Enough of that buff, butt-ugly construction workers! We want some beautiful boys! And yay I get to keep it too ^_^.
You must do more beautiful guys. Keep up the ranks for us who want some but can't find any ;_;. I appreciate this so much, eei~!
There's a heart on his dress thing..um...whoa hoh O.O;; ergh...I think I need lie down..
|
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
*grins* You should go join my forums... I post them pretty boys all over the place ;] Heheh, glad you saw the little heart.
|
|
min Rho 2002-02-26 |
A question to Linda, and suggestion to all ;) Linda, I was wondering if you were a fan of Morrissey, and if that influenced your work in any way. I find that listening to his music while looking at your art intensifies the feeling. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Mm... think Placebo, Tool, and APC... and you'll find where my inspiration comes from, most of the time =]
|
|
Luis Diaz 2002-03-21 |
Wow! I have never seen here at Epi as many comments as in this piece. This piece is odd...I love it! It takes powerful images to stir up those kinds of feelings. You master your technique. |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Thank you =] I intended to stir up feelings, and I'm glad I have. (and, yes, I've received an insane amount of comments for this one!)
|
|
Walt Bayless 2002-03-30 |
Outstanding! What a delicious dark vision you have. I think your calling has found you! A very special piece here, with all the crawling parts of the hushed mind! |
|
Sharon Buchanan 2002-04-01 |
Eps! I know that man! He plays Frank in the local Rocky Horror Picture Show! No, I am _not_ kidding!
That aside, I love your pictures for their asthetic value even if I do enjoy more traditionally masculine men in reality. But this isn't about the every day, now is it? Art is a _supposed_ to be a medium for the imagination, not a true to the flaws rendering of what we always see!
One last thing - I would love to your "anti-supporters" create even one image as beautifully crafted as you have done. |
|
Xu Fifi 2002-04-07 |
Devil May Cry??? WoW!!! What software did you use??? So soft ne!!!I thought it was a teaser for devil may cry*it's so cool* PS2 game...this guy is even sexier than miss universe... |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
Heheh... it says "Devil May Care", not cry. Never played the game and I most likely won't. *grin*
Software would be adobe photoshop 6.
|
|
Nene Thomas 2002-04-09 |
I love this one. His face reminds me a little bit of my gorgeous friend Yaya Han.
Actually Linda, I love all your work. Every piece. Never stop painting! |
|
Carla Bender 2002-04-10 |
@_@ Im in love...... |

Beverly Toole 2002-04-13 |
Very lively... **drool** Wow.... You are really good with photoshop. Your life drawing is amazing! LONG LIVE THE PRETTY BOYS!! XD How did you learn photoshop so well? Do you scan pencils of finished inks? What school did you attend cause i must say....they tought you well. Keep up the good work!
(oh yeah! I joined the ebonykeep! Hope to chat with you there!)
^_^ |

Anna Draconida 2002-04-16 |
I can's call this a "man",no matter how hard I try, even though I liked some of your other pretty males. In my opinion, you've overshot your goal with this one.I wish you would paint more birds (I love your birds) or flowers. But it's OK,don't care about me,I'm just a little amateur who is lucky to receive a single comment in 3 months, and you're the biggest Diva around.Who am I to criticize you, right ? |
|
Xu Fifi 2002-05-01 |
devil may care Hey! True! I've just surfed at devil may cry homepage and actually they planned to use the title"devil may care" until then they change it to cry. The character's name is Dante and he is so cool! I think you can make a fanart for it and send to the PS2 mag, then you'll get PS2 console! cool!!!I'm sure you'll win! |
| (Linda Bergkvist) |
*Chuckles* Well, 'the devil may care' is an actual expression. My picture has nothing to do with 'the devil may cry' (never even heard of it before).
|
|
Maria J. William 2002-05-05 |
This is beautiful and mysterious, and your talent shines through again. If someone doesn't like it that's their problem; but I was really irked by one comment that said you should change your ways. I just got a similar comment, not surprisingly, from the same person. I said it in response there and I'll say it here again: it's very disrespectful to tell an artist to change to your liking. I can ignore it coming from a careless nothing-better-to-do commentor, but never from another artist (who's supposed to understand what personal style, vision and feelings we pour into art mean to us). *sigh* Sorry about the li'l rant. Carry on. |
|
Alisha Walker 2002-09-29 |
My My.. you drew my man! lol ^_~
hehe I'm in love with fem boys..
oh hehe also wonderful work |

Chris Armon 2002-10-15 |
Kawaii ^_^ I must say, it is increasingly difficult to controll drooling and speech while staring at this picture, as well as most all of your artwork.
I know what I'm dreaming about tongiht *nods* ^_^ |
|
Kyla Sturgeon 2003-03-08 |
wow.... You inspire me so much!! I love your art to death and you've quickly become one of my favorites! I love your pretty boys. I'm so deeply in love with jrock and the visual kei... they all look like ladies. ^o^ If anyone complains about your guys being impossible, too pretty, heve them look at some japanese boys who wear makeup and woman's clothing and they'll see that they won't be able to tell the difference between male and female. ^~* Lovely work as always. I wish you the best and I want you to know that I support you fully! ^_^ |
|
Rochelle Green 2003-10-22 |
WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THAILAND? Lolol..Linda, Linda...I get these ego complexes, but then every time I visit your galleries, I'm put to shame and brought back down to earth *tsk tsk* Lovely work on his clothes - thats my favourite part. Nice.. You know I like the look of this guy not all straight men are. Well manly I once saw this couple on up north. The guy was really fem, but his girlfriend was buff almost manly in a way.
To make a long story short I knew they were a couple when they frenched kissed infront of me.
To the artist if you really wanna below peoples minds I'm give this soft fem male a buff hard female.^^ hahaha! |

I love the way you colored this picture! The background has many different tones, and then the way you colored all of the various black is done very well - you can see all of the different textures. Very amazing. The only very very very very small criticism I have (and it really doesn't take away from the picture at all), is that I really like the face and think perhaps it could be lit up a little more. But that's really nothing, it's an amazing picture. |

as always amazing. it so reminds me of Yoshiki and Khala of Japanese rock fame. the wonderful feel of masculinity cut with such beautiful femininity. just jaw dropping amazing as usual. |
