Artwork Description

Lilac Nectarbird
Bibinectarium syringa

Commonly found in temperate climates, the Lilac Nectarbird is a bird of gardens and open forests. They feed primarily on flowers, favoring those with purple blooms. Lilacs, irises, and wisteria attract these birds, from which they feed on the blossoms and nectar.

Lilac Nectarbirds are mostly found in rural areas, though occasionally they are seen in urban gardens. Similar to other bird species (such as flamingos), Lilac Nectarbirds are thought to obtain the purple tint to their feathers from the blooms they eat.
