Artwork Description

As we welcome winter here in the northwestern hemisphere, what began as a random exercise in figure drawing transformed into my interpretation of the Welsh mother goddess Rhiannon - she who has been my matron muse for many years. Many view Rhiannon as a bright fey spirit - but what came to me when I began this was her aspect as Queen of Annwn, the Celtic Otherworld synonymous with the realms of the dead. Rhiannon is a potent symbol of fertility for all her associations with death and the Otherworld - a moon deity usually symbolized by a white horse, who can aid in overcoming enemies, exercising patience, working magick, and enhancing dream work.
An original drawing in pencil, finished digitally.

LOL Not for lack of trying Pierre. But thank you nonetheless - it's nice to know I haven't been completely forgotten. Wink

Nice to see a new piece of yours joining your gallery. It has been a while since the last one, we have been missing you. Smile

Thank you very much. I'll confess smiles are actually one of the features of the face that I've constantly struggled with - making sure to keep it as natural as possible without looking stiff and forced. I'm very picky about that kind of thing. Smile

Thank you! I spent quite a bit of time on getting her expression and eyes to the point I felt they were just as I'd envisioned. When it comes to something as iconic as representing a deity it somehow feels even more crucial to pay closer attention to that kind of detail. I've never been a fan of empty expressions. Smile

Thank you very much! It's been a while since I've done a strictly B/W pencil piece, and this particular subject is dear to my heart.

Excellent shading. She has the confident gaze that one would expect from a Goddess. Nice work Amy.
